Root Need help

You would need to find some software for your PC which can read md5sum files.

We cannot check it from your phone (but normally we can from within the OS). There might be an option to do that in recovery.

If you select recovery what options show up?

If there is no option to install the zip file, I have one more idea.

Rename:

RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.zip

to

PD98IMG.zip

It should be autodetected and flashed.

But we should definitely wait for someone to confirm before trying this.

The download got corrupted and I don't have time to try again tonight... Early nighter, you see. I'll have to try again by Wednesday, because my father has to use his SD card for the two days in between.

Well, at least everything did not work without making things worse.

The renaming the file to PD98IMG.zip is how I installed a Radio a few months back, but I don't if this is how that RUU zip file is supposed to be installed.

Check back in here tomorrow?

Okay, if you were on Android 2.3.5 you would have to run AAHK twice. From your region I am pretty sure you were running HTC Asia WWE 3.13.707.4 before you ran AAHK.

Step 1. From the manual.

HBoot shows:

So it looks like AAHK was able to downgrade you to this ROM:

RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed

Step 2. After this you were supposed to run AAHK again and it would do the following:

It looks like you never got to Step 2.

I think if we are able to flash a RUU things should be okay.

Download:

RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed

  1. Download the file
  2. Connect your device via USB.
  3. Double-click on the .EXE file you downloaded.
  4. The program will check your device's compatibility and if all is well, it will start the update procedure.

This should put you back on Android 2.2 or an early 2.3 and allow you to continue rooting with AAHK.

An alternative would be to use:

RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.13.707.4_R_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_234022_signed.exe

This should put you back on the same ROM before you use AAHK.

I am a bit of a noob. Wait for confirmation from someone else before proceeding.

this would be the best option. if aahk ran, changed the main version, and started to load this rom, this is what we should try and restore. picking something with higher buildn numbers will chagne the main version accordingly, and may may recovery more difficult.

if the device is carrier branded,we cant run a different carrier ruu without a gold card.

since youre having sd card issues,id prolly suggest a reformat using a card reader to FAT32 using the "full format" option in the PC.

ral has done a great job of troubleshooting,im in the process of reading the rest of the thread now. :)

if youre having trouble getting the .exe to start or recognize the phone,we can extract "rom.zip" from it and you can flash that fromthe sd in hboot.

so if you havent got it sorted yet, hang tight,im readin :)

It's really good to see you here.

i wouldnt leave yall hangin :) just been a busy weekend, lol.

opticity, you may want to go ahead and do this,so that we will know your CID and main version:
first download and install these drivers: revolutionary drivers

then,download this small file:
mini-adb.zip

-unzip it,and place the unzipped folder onto the root of your C drive(not inside a folder)

-open a cmd window(with win 7,click start bubble, type "command" or "cmd" in hte search box)

-now change to your mini-adb directory(assuming you didnt chagne the name). type in the black cmd window that opened on your PC:
cd c:\mini-adb

-pull the battery in your phone for a few seconds. hold volume down, then power. hold them both until you see the white/colored writing hboot screen

-select "fastboot" from the hboot menu with the vol rocker/power button

-in your cmd window type:
fastboot devices

it should output your phones serial number. if so youre good to go. if not, youre apparently having a driver issue. i usually recomend these drivers from Revolutionary: modified htc drivers download and install the drivers(you should just have to run that file). afterwards, unplug your phone, plug it back in. make sure its in fastboot. as soon as you get a result from "fastboot devices" your ready to procede to the next step.

-in your cmd window, type(or copy/paste,is much easier):
fastboot getvar all

-copy the info that outputs here. right click in your cmd window, click mark, highlight it all in white. hit enter. paste the info here. it will help us know which ruu for you to run. :)

My impatience is what got me into this in the first place.

Well I've put the .zip file into the root of the SD card, got into the HBoot screen where the device checked for the PD98IMG files (all wrong or no image)... and then back to the Hboot menu. Is that it?

I get an Invalid Operation message.

basically, you cant use the stock recovery to install files that are intended to be installed in hboot. the stock recovery is used to installing .zip file that contains mostly patch files, and sometimes fimrware. the file must be signed and configured a certain way for stock recovery to install it.

your file didnt flash in hboot for a couple of different reasons:
1)incorrect format. the sd MUST be FAT32. if its plain FAT,or anything else, the file is invisible. if you find FAT,youll need to back up the sd and reformat it using the full format option.(i would try doing this with your non-responsive sd. it may fix it)

2)incorrect name. the phone must see EXACTLY "PD98IMG.zip" so using windows to name,it usually is correct to call the file "PD98IMG" as windows automatically adds and hides the file ext. typing in the .zip filename often results in the phone being named "PD98IMG.zip.zip" wich is also invisible. in rarer cases, not tying in the .zip could result in the file being named only "PD98IMG"-equally invisible. you can try the file with leaving the .zip on and off, once youve verified the sd format.

3)the file is not correct. if it is not signed, for a different phone, does not pass the main version or cid checks, etc. the phone may return silently to hboot. normally, you will recieve an error in this situation, however. so i would expect 1 or 2 to be the prollem.

if you have a branded phone,id expect the 3.12.405.1 .zip file to fail with a CID error, wich is no biggie.

ive downloaded the ruu linked above,so if it will pass the main ver and cid checks we can use that.

to use the .exe file, you select fastboot from the hboot menu. then start the .exe

if you followd the directions above, and got the getvar all info, then you should have working drivers and the .exe should run. ill start uploading a .zip to shipped roms in case we need that.

i think the next step, however,is to check the main version and cid using the directions above. :) that will help us find the correct one,and will hopefully get you up and running sooner.

Lucky me I have a card reader for my R4 flash cart, and also another microSD card from the aforementioned R4 flash cart, so I can begin... fixing this now, with your instructions of course.

So to change my SD card to the FAT32 version, I basically just have to full format it with my computer? I'll get to it then. [EDIT: I just checked, the format was FAT32. I guess I don't need to format it then?]

After everything's done and the phone's rooted (hopefully), can I just put all the data I've backed up from my SD card back into it and get all the apps running normally like before? Sorry, I'm kind of new to all this stuff.

Data yes. Apps and settings will have to be reinstalled and reconfigured.

Its early early Monday morning where scotty is at, but he checks back in regularly. Best wait a bit before your next step.

I suck (really) at trouble shooting. But am good at flashing ROM's. Let scotty get you sorted out and hopefully rooted. Once you are, I promise I will make all this trouble worth it :D

techniically you dont need to reformat if youre allready FAT32,but if this is the sd that you had trouble with, then you may want to do a full format in the PC anyway,as that may fix it. as ral said, you can put the data back on the sd and continue on later :)

the good news is that you do have a low main version:

if you are 100% sure that your phone did not ship with gingerbread, then you can simply run the ruu for 1.32.405.3(cant find an ruu for 1.31.405.6): Shipped ROMs

i am uploading a 1.32.405.3 .zip to shipped roms,in case you cant get the .exe to run. it should be there in a couple hours.

if you are unsure what your phone shipped with, then you want to be careful what you flash.froyo will goof your phone up,so stay with the previous plan, and use the RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radi o_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed linked above.

if you need a .zip format, there is one here: Shipped ROMs

i am unsure if your current CID will let you flash this rom without a gold card. the aahk should have made the sd you were using into a gold card,so if you reformat it,it may work. otherwise we will have to find a low build number GB rom that is compatible with your cid.(maybe this one: Shipped ROMs) or you can remake a gold card,if you have another android phone you can use.

gotta get to work soon, but i will try and check in on you :)

opticity, dont listen to him. hes doing a fine job troubleshooting :D

well, listen to him about the roms part. he has tried about all the dhd roms and has way more knowledge of them than prolly any of us here! :smokingsomb:

Just formatted my card. It's still unresponsive. And I don't have another Android phone so I can't make another gold card...

I agree 100% with Scotty!

lol - this is true... he's addicted to flashing ROM's! :)

Sad to say this is true... first I stuck to a ROM for three weeks, than it went down to when a week was long... today I hit 106 hours with a ROM and I realized that was probably the longest I have been on a single ROM since August :help:

I realized something was wrong... so I flashed another ROM :pepsi:

Just a quick question; will using the SD card to flash a ROM and/or making it into a gold card change it in any way? I can't really use the DS's SD card until I can confirm this because my mother wants to use it, and somehow my phone's SD card can't be used to replace the DS's SD card. This is frustrating.

nope. will not change it in any way. to make it a gold card, you will need to back it up,then replace the stuff to it after the process.

using it to install the factory rom wont change it either, just delete that from the sd after youre done,as it will take up a large chunk of storage space :)

Alright, I've flashed the RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.37.707.3_Radi o_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_188759_signed ROM and the phone's functional. What should I do now? Should I go ahead with AAHK then?

I'm taking so much pains just to get ICS on this phone lol... if only HTC continued to support DHD...

EDIT: I used the DS SD card to flash the ROM, and most likely would need to make it a gold card. My question is, what's a gold card for? Is it absolutely needed? When I've rooted my phone, can I take out the gold card and substitute it with my old SD card?

EDIT EDIT: Now that I think about it... How much better would ICS be over GB 2.3.5? And is rooting the phone permanent? If I don't like the changes, can I just revert everything back? Sorry for all the questions, but I need to make sure I don't regret this...
