Need Pro's and Con's of the Razr M

A couple problems I've had with my M:
1) Disabling Google Search, causes voice input to be messed up.
2) Storing photos to the phone resulted in abrupt loss of all photos taken with the camera with no warning. I have since gone to an SD card and will see how that goes.
 
Two more questions I've thought of......

1. How is the voice recognition dialer on the M? When I had an old Motorola Flip Phone I used the voice recognition dialer all the time but on my DINC is did not work well (actually not at all). Can someone let me know how good or bad it work on the M when attempting to make call from your contacts list?

2. I understand that the M has a micro USB interface/power connector but someone told me that Motorola phones, even though this interface is the same as I have on my DINC, knows the difference between a Motorola branded interfaced and a generic interface and that the M may not charge with a generic charger or the generic car charger. Now I'm a bit skeptical about this claim, but this guy says he has seen this on older Motorola products and he works in the mobile phone support area of the company I work for. Can anyone tell me if a generic micro usb charger works on the M?

Any charger works fine. I have several generic charges, including car chargers, and dont have any problems.
 
I believe the issue is quality control. Motorola equipment must meet stringent standards before it is released for sale. Some third-party suppliers of both chargers and cables have less stringent standards. Some of their stuff works fine. Some of it doesn't work.

The approach that has pr oven to be sound over and over again is to use the charger and cable that came with you phone. This establishes a reference point. Experiment with other chargers and cables if you like. If you run into problems you can zero in on the solution by reverting to the OEM charger and cable to prove everything is OK and then swap in the third-party charger or cable.

My biggest con w/this phone is the volume rocker being on the wrong side. I got used to being able to toggle the rocker with my thumb and now I've got to use my index finger which feels awkward to me. The battery life is a huge pro for me though I'm not liking the fact that I can't replace it.
 
Thought the same about the button positions myself. After three days I never thought about it again. But I will admit to hitting the power button sometimes when wanting to hit the volume. And when switching to landscape mode I reverse the vol up/down many times.

Have you even had an update to Launcher Pro in the last year? Just curious.

Another thing. You can run more than one Launcher at a time without affecting the other or having to delete it. Just download it and play around with it. You can always go back to the other by hitting the Home button and switching or just deleting the other Launcher.

Thanks. I'll give that a try and hope that it can make my phone more tolerable until I upgrade.
 
I thought I would add a follow up to my origional post.

After waiting for about a 2 weeks after my orignal post, I did enough research and felt comfortable with purchasing the Razr M to replace my HTC Incredible. So far I have had my Razr M for just over a week now and I'm VERY happy with my decision.

What I have found so far is that the M operates flawlessly. Nothing qwirky like my DINC. Battery life is excellent and way above my expectations. I have had no problems with any apps which was not the case with my DINC. Screen is very sharp and crystal clear.

Note that prior to buying the Razr M I had an opportunity to test drive the Galaxy S3 and even though it's a nice phone with a lot of bells and whistles but if your looking for a smaller sized smartphone that's rock solid, you cannot go wrong with the Razr M and for my needs the Razr M is simply a better phone than the S3.
 
I'm glad that you decided to go with the Razr M and are very happy with it! I love my Razr M and would not trade it for the world. I've had Samsung android based devices in the past as well as a couple of the Apple iPhones and Blackberry devices, but by far my favorite is the Droid Razr M. As far as the camera goes I feel that the camera is "good enough" for what most people will use it for, but for me nothing can replace the Nikon DSLRs that I've had the pleasure of owning over the years. I'm finding the camera to be just awful. Bad to the point where it might as well not be there. On my next vacation, I'm probably going to back my old point and shoot. This camera is just horrible.
 
Battery life amazing compared to the RAZR. Camera is good unless zoomed in. Haven't tried moving shots yet though. Audio seems louder than the RAZR. Haven't found any glitches as of yet. I'm still deciding on root though. I'm scared so early after it's come out.
 
I find the camera just fine. As i have said in other posts.....don't rely on AUTO to do it for you. You have manual settings with this camera. Play with them. And don't rely on the flash for all your pics. I find much better pics, disabling the flash! Play with exposure settings too, especially indoors.
If you need to do Macro pics, try the app: Magnifier. It works great for Macro shots.
 
So, I realize that this thread hasn't been posted on in a number of days but I'm facing a similar situation. I have a Droid Bionic and I love this phone. I have been having some signal issues that I shouldn't be having. Basically I can hang up from a phone call and my signal goes from fine to absolutely no service for several minutes. It will also randomly just loose service in a great service area and then get it back in a few minutes. I went thru a lot of discussion with Verizon and even a small conversation with Motorola that ended with me hanging up on them because they didn't want to help at all.

So they offered me the LG Intuition and the Razor M. I chose the Razor M. I'll have it on Friday. I'm pretty sure that I'll have the same processor if not a better one. I use Nova launcher on my Bionic. I'm hoping that the M allows me to use it. I'm also rooted on my Bionic. If I don't like the M I'll just wait my time out to use an upgrade on my account to get the S3.

I just wanted to ask what am I loosing and what am I gaining by going to the M over keeping the Bionic and dealing with the signal issues. I can live with the issues, I just thought that I could use the chance at getting a little bit better phone for awhile because I have become bored with my Bionic even though I do love it so much. I have never been happier with a phone. Which you will all probably ask why not stay with the Bionic? Well boredom with it. It feels small to me now and even though I've spent a decent amount of money on multiple cases including an otter box as well as a car mount I just want the bigger screen and honestly a new toy to play with. If an S3 would land in my lap for free I would take it an run. If a Maxx did the same thing I would run as well.

Any help would be awesome. I already think going into it that I'm not going to like it, but I'm hoping that I'm wrong.
 
Model selection is an individual decision. You might not like what I like.

I suggest you go to a Verizon store ... handle the Razr M and any other phone and and see what you like.

Thom, your help and opinion has always served me well since being on this forum. I understand what you are saying, and while I'll go and play with the M in the store if I have the chance to do so today I would like to bring up something else along this topic.

So I know we all use our phones for different things, some more for business or work, some more for media, and some more of an all around user. I honestly am not really any of those. I don't really use my phone for phone call, I text 98% of the time. I don't put music on my phone nor listen to it with my phone thru an app. I don't use navigation on my phone. And I play some games at times, and I get on facebook with my phone about 2 times a day at best, and I check my twitter feed a few times a day, more if there is a hockey game on.

So with my list of uses for what I do with a phone....they probably differ from a lot of you out there. I'm still just curious as to what I'm getting or not getting in comparison to what I already have? So...Bionic VS Razr M
 
I think that if voice is important to you (which you say it isn't) then you would choose ANYTHING Motorola. It is the recognized leader.

The reason for handling ... form factor.

Many people think the Razr M is great because of the size. Many people dislike it because of the size.


Many people think the Razr Maxx HD is great because of the size. Many people dislike it because of the size.

I am using the Bionic (since the hour it was released) and like it a lot. If I was going to upgrade today I would go with the Razr Maxx HD. If I could wait a few months ... I would ... and see what the X had to offer.

Just came from the Verizon store. I played with the razr M. It is very light, and well the screen is the whole phone with no border. I guess it's something I can get use to. The other options on phones that I was given was the LG Intuition and LG Spectrum 2. I realize that the Spectrum 2 is a downgrade but what I like about it is the size. The Intuition is pretty cool for it being a tablet phone. But I was told that any of the motorola phones blow it out of the water. So as soon as I get to playing and customizing the M tomorrow I'll make my choice....either go with it or stick it out with the Bionic until September when I can go get the S3.
