Root NEED ROM in tar. format for ODIN

VanVon

Newbie
Can someone please link or generate a ROM that is in tar. format so I can flash it through ODIN b/c I can't access my Recovery thanks to boot loop.

I actually don't know what that is.... gimme some time I'll do some research on it. What if my phone does recognize it?

You can sideload a ROm but if the adb Dont work what will Odin do for you
It will be a waist of time to do a tar file

I just found a guide for noobs on how to use ADB, I'm installing Android SDK Platform tools atm. ^_^
am I on the right track?

OK, In the Android SDK Manager I only Installed the Android SDK Tools and Platform-tools packages. Now I have no idea what to do... (I'm not sure how to tell whether or not ADB recognizes my device)

Very nice did you look at the URL I posted . you are good to have the SDK but you could have saved a lot of space downloading the SDK mini does the same . But my question is do you know what adb aka android debug bridge is and do for android . this and is your friend and one name that will stop a lot of fights on your school yard. This is a tool of all tools with the USB cable and knowledge of cmd on windows and Linux you can do pretty much what you want . so being rooted has many advantages and some disadvantages.

Now you need to open device manager on your windows or Mac PC and see what happens when you plug your USB to the pc

Gotcha, I opened device manager and plugged in my phone. I didn't notice anything happen in the device manager, it looked the same as when I first opened it.

Well from what I researched so far, ADB requires your device to have USB debugging on in order to communicate with it.... so how am I supposed to enable debug mode when my device is in a boot-loop?

EDIT* I just discovered that I can use fastboot, but bootloop won't allow me to access fastboot mode either... (its VOLUP./VOLDO./POWER right?)

Odin does manage to recognize my device and I already tried flashing a new Recovery (CWM) through it and according to Odin the installation was a success. (RESS OK) BUT when I pull/replace battery and try to boot into recovery mode, my previous TWRP recovery logo (TEAMWIN) appears for a second and then SAMSUNG logo pops up and my phone goes back to bootloopin.:( My last hope is flashing a stock or even a custom ROM through Odin but I can't find a ROM in tar. format anywhere. :hmmmm:

Are you flashing the correct image and are you flashing in the correct spot in odin where did you get the image from.

What is the full make and model of your device.

1. Recovery mode wont boot - thanks to boot-loop
2. Download mode boots but I can't flash Recovery through Odin successfully.
3. Fastboot mode wont boot - thanks to boot-loop
4. Adb won't recognize my device - thanks to boot-loop
5. No sign of ROM in tar. format anywhere, online.

Well......shit
I'm screwed

For the record, Odin and download mode operate completely independent of the OS and have no connection to adb. You need not even have USB debugging enabled to use Odin.

What happened to get you in your current state? How did your recovery become corrupt? What is the error message from Odin?

These were the last moments I had with my device...
1. Installed TWRP Recovery to create a backup.
2. Made a backup inside the Recovery and went straight to restore.
3. Phone booted and everything was OK except my WI-FI wouldn't turn on.
4. Went to phone settings and did a factory reset.
5. Phone automatically shut off and booted into recovery (recovery was attempting to do something?)
6. I panicked and quickly pulled battery - I think this caused the boot-loop b/c my recovery didn't finish what it was trying to do.
7. Once I replaced battery my device entered boot-loop.

According to Odin, my CWM recovery installations are a success, I get the "RES OK" but once I pull/replace battery and try to boot into recovery my previous Recovery logo (TEAMWIN) appears for a second until the SAMSUNG logo pops up and boot-loop starts.

I was going to suggest using the stock Odin files found here
http://androidforums.com/reverb-all-things-root/657374-oudhs-soft-brick-cwm-recovery-support.html

But it appears the links were removed... perhaps you could try messaging the OP of that thread to see if they are still available somewhere. But if Odin can still see the phone all is not lost YET Odin is the Alpha and Omega when it comes to Samsung devices.

By the way, the backup you made with twrp can not be restored with cwm... Have you tried reinstalling twrp? Same result? What actually happens when you try to boot into recovery? Perhaps you are just not timing the button combo correctly?

Edit- it appears i read that wrong before. I had assumed that the thread contained a stock Odin image, but it appears to simply be for recovery. The rest of my post still applies.

Have you tried reinstalling twrp again?

Yeh I know I'll lose my backup but I just don't care anymore, as long as I get my device working again.:bawling: TWRP has the same result. Well I always wondered about the combo too... Before I replace battery I hold down VOL.UP and POW. once Samsung logo appears I release only POW. until "boot to recovery mode by key" appears in the left corner, then I release VOL.UP. I get black screen for a sec, then TEAMWIN logo pops up for a second then black screen again for a sec and then SAMSUNG logo pops up and boot loop starts all over again. If I'm doing something wrong please tell me. :adore:

Indeed Odin is the Alpha and Omega, I've had enough of Recoveries, I want to try flashing a ROM or maybe a Kernel through Odin, but I can't find any online.

EDIT* Just tried reflashing TWRP, boot-loop is still exactly the same.

Well, if you are seeing the twrp screen for a brief moment, the timing isn't the issue... Unfortunately, I'm not able to find an Odin system image. I'll try looking around some more, but unless we can find a system image, or get recovery working, I'm not sure what else to try :(

Odin system image is another name for a ROM in tar. format right? :hmmmm2:

Is it possible to convert a zip file into a tar file that will be flashable through Odin?
