Root Need s-off

I run Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop. Follow the instructions in the guide for getting a live CD setup, works just fine. :)

I will recommend when you load the live CD, install the optional boot utility on the Live CD. When you boot the computer you'll get a prompt to either boot to windows or ubuntu. If you have the Live CD in the drive, choose Ubuntu and it'll boot right up. :)

I made the Ubuntu DVD but I can't seem to figure out how to use it once it is running. I was able to get into the Ubuntu desktop from the DVD after it started. For some reason I cant access my internet when using the Ubuntu to follow the steps of the guide. I also can't find the files for step 5 (below) in the downloaded zip file that I extracted to a new folder.

5. (Linux ONLY) cd into the folder where you extracted and run the following cmd: chmod 755 RabiesShot adb fastboot

In the top right hand corner there should be an icon that looks like the WiFi icon on your phone. Click on that and it should shoe the internet connections available. If not, post back and we'll go from there. :)

Okay, I am officially talking to you through Ubuntu!

It's all good, I've just been there before. LOL :)

Once you have ubuntu setup, you'll need to download all the files into the default downloads folder.

From there click on the ubuntu symbol on the top left hand of the screen to open a terminal session. This terminal window is where you'll enter all the commands in the guide. :)

Sorry...I just got back in, Ubuntu got locked up for me and I had to re-boot. Okay sounds good, so I am going to re-download all the files now that I am in Ubuntu.

Back in Windows now...I can't seem to be able to get very far without Ubuntu locking up on me. Every time I go to click a link or download something it locks up on me.

JL79, Which version of Ubuntu are you trying to boot on your computer?

I couldn't get anything newer than 10.04 to work on my laptop. I think because my laptop is very old. Using 10.04 I was able to run the lazy panda files with out a problem but after the fact I read that 10.04 won't run the unbricker. So if I had bricked I would have been up a creek.

If you're on the newest version try going to an older one and see if it works better on your setup.
Everything above 10.04 should be able to work for you.

Edit: An example of the issues I had with newer versions. The 12.xx wouldn't evr get past the boot up animation, and the 11.xx would boot up for me but Firefox wouldn't stay open for more than 2 minutes at a clip.

well we will be here when you root the phone, if you need us. now go and get your root on so that you can get your flash on:D

It seems like one thing after another with this phone...now since I gave up on the DirtyRacun method and switched to doing just the RegawMod method I am getting some sort of error.

I keep getting:

>Rebooting to bootloader... DONE

The phone doesn't even reboot a single time, and the Regaw software just goes into Not Responding.

Wow wow wow !! I'm getting frustrated !!! I keep on trying different methods, have read every post out and I can't get s off or root. Hboot 1.19.0000, running 2.13.651.1, 4.0 Ice cream. Any ideas !! This ones giving me a run for the money !!!!!

yep you will need to use this guide: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...g-dummies-guide-lazypanda-racun-unlocked.html. go to section 2 and follow the instructions for dirtyracun.

edit: i do need to add the downgrade option to the guide at some point as well......but yeah that option is out there as well.

I've downloaded all files needed but ubuntu is taking for ever, it all looks intimidating but what the hey.

My main issue was lack of patience. That and make sure you sudo all commands.

Patience,I don't have one bit !!! Sucks !! My evo 4g was a piece of cake compared to this.Once you toldme to make sure to sudo all commands you confused me. Any easy explanation ?:confused:

HTC learned from and corrected every exploit from prior devices when they built The evo 4g lte. Im afraid as time goes on, its going to be harder and harder to get s-off.

Sudo is the command to run as root. Just add sudo before the line of code

Example
sudo fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
It'll prompt you for your password after that

That's not code you'll need for s-off, but its an example to show you how to enter sudo
