Root Need some help - stuck on S-ON

Hi all:

So I am following the rooting guide for dummies (gingerbread editions) sticky. I initially hit a road block while trying to run revolutionary.exe - eventually got my way around then.

My phone then begins to root after I put in the beta key. I step away from my computer because it says to take a minute and I come back to the blue screen of death. This means I'm not sure if I ever got prompted to:

7.when it finishes it will ask you if you want to download and install clockwork mod recovery, select yes.

Luckily my phone was in the bootloader so I continue with the instructions - unfortunately when going to the Hboot screen I see S-ON.

---

Can anyone assist in getting this back on track? Appreciate the help in advance. Had an EVO since launch and just tonight decided to root it.

If you are s-on, then you'll need to revolutionary again. Try putting it into charge mode? Or maybe the blue screen someone messed with the Evo Driver..? Try that again.

Is your H-boot still 2.1x?

Chances are if you still have S-ON it is, and you need to re-run revolutionary to get S-OFF.

It may take a few times.

Thanks - I got it working. I feel like a moron - I was freaking out for a sec but then took out the battery and rebooted.

I'm officially rooted. Now it's time to flash - any recommendations?

MikG gets good reviews from folks around here. I like AOSP myself (CM7, miui, OMFGB etc.).

Also, I always had a fondness for Myn's roms. (warm 2.2 ftw)

well mikg is what i always recommend to start out with. but there are tons of roms to try. i really like mik as a dev. i think that his roms are always top notch so if you want to try out sense 3.0 then try mik3d. if you want aosp which has better performance and better battery life (for me at least) then try cm7.1 or xplod rom.

also i would also start looking into getting a custom kernels and also using setcpu. these two things will help out with performance and battery life.
