Network vision & LTE rollout

Actually, your timing is great! I plan on doing the same.. but I'll pay full price for the first LTE EVO I can get my hands on. Next summer should be fun!

I'm actually waiting for the Galaxy S III. I hope the rumored specs of the phone come true and it comes mid 2012. EVO is another choice. I just hope HTC step thier game up this time around.

I'm getting pretty excited for my next upgrade. I'll be selling my Evo 3D probably around May and using my girlfriend's old Samsung Moment for a month until the 3rd Generation Evo comes out and she'll have her upgrade due then as well, so we'll probably both get them. Badassery will ensue.

I'll have an upgrade available in the Spring so I will probably get the next generation EVO and pass my EVO 3D on to my husband. While I am certainly open minded about other brands, HTC has been good to me with regular updates and support. I am just hoping by then LTE will be as good here as Wimax is now. Lol, I guess I am one of those rare people who is actually in an excellent coverage area.

With new LTE coming out mid-2012, I wonder if Sprint will have one with both WiMAX and LTE radios. Otherwise, it'll be similar to 4G devices now, albeit LTE is on the schedule to be fully expanded in 2013 (per their schedule and we know how schedules are managed).

I have feeling that the first LTE device owners (me included) will still be gimping through until then.

So we are expecting the first LTE device to be around June? That's usually the month the EVO comes out.

Granted the spectrum/network integration that Network Vision provides, I have a feeling that the 4G (LTE) rollout will be much faster and smoother this time around. EDIT: I support this with slide 16 of the above Sprint document. It says that by next summer/mid-2012, LTE will cover 123million people, which is already 3 million more than wimax covers. Then, looking further ahead, that number doubles in 2013, to 250M pop's.

Also, Sprint has already said they will not have devices that support both wimax and lte. Sprints focus is now lte.

Oh yeah! I knew it wasn't all in my head! ;)

See what is going on in your area... tower by tower. You can see what has happened to each tower in the last 6 months, and what will be happening to each tower in the next 6 months. I applaud Sprint for doing this, rather than just making it a guessing game as to what is going on.

This is pretty cool:

Thanks for that link. Looks like theres going to be some improvements in my area on the next 6 months.

All towers will at some point see some form of upgrades. The problem is that Sprint out sources the work like WiMax that Clearwire did for them. So Sprint just needs to find the right company and get started. That is the sticking point right now and that is why it is called Sprint Network Vision. The other great part is when the IDEN towers get better upgrades most Android phones in and around that tower will start to get better performance. Oh and 1 last thing on that map in the Link when you see upgrades in the last 6 months that is CDMA REV:0 to CDMA REV:A and WiMax add-ons to the towers. The jump in POPS from 2011 to 2012 is the IDEN towers getting switched to CDMA and LTE

The city I spend most of my time in just got massive voice and backhaul upgrades and a few new towers added in prior dead zones..

3g and 4g coverage and speeds have improved dramatically even during peak times.

I truly hope they get their upgrades for everyone as quickly as possible..

The voice ads and backhaul improvements have been coming fast and furious.

I think Sprint will be in a great place by next summer and back to being a major player by the end of 2012

The Verge has some additional information, claiming the first handsets should hit Q3 2012. Looks like Sprint wants to turn LTE on and make sure its functioning before letting the masses start playing on it. I think that's a better approach than what AT&T did with their LTE start-up.

Nice to hear that SPRINT will be supporting 4G WIMAX until 2015.

Perhaps SPRINT will offer some incentives to those of us who are determined to hang on to our WIMAX phones 'til the last minute to switch to a 4G LTE handset,to hasten the switchover.

That's the right approach. Only thing is now I have to hold on to my EVO until next summer lol.

How do we know that every lte phone will cost 200 dollars. Right now sprint is the only wimax carrier and they have the nexus s for next to nothing. Soooo it would stand to reason that as more lte technology is advanced and adopted the phones will get cheaper.

The Nexus S started out at $200...

I don't think phones will get cheaper to start out with...but all of them eventually go down or there's always specials at certain outlets. Just be glad you don't have to pay like 300 like a lot of Verizon phones.
