Just purchased an Evo3D as my first foray into the smart phone world. Can't wait to really start using it. My questions were to get the inside info on what apps are a must have, how to get the most of out of my battery, and accessories are compatible. What are the tweaks that are most successful in really getting the most out of the phone?
Rooting of course seems to be the best way to get the most out of it, so I'd love to hear the consensus on how worth it is and how easy it is (for a noob to idea). Also if anybody's turned it into a hotspot, as I've got a vacation home that would be a great place to use that.
Anyway, I've got an iBook as my primary computer to delve into the phone. I probably won't be a huge gamer, but in addition to above, would like to know if it's easy with the MHL to hook up to the TV. I'm coming from a dumb phone that could hold a charge for at least two full days (cue laughter from smartphone community) and I don't expect that, but hey, I wouldn't complain either.
Hope this is the right way of going about it and I haven't done anything against the T&C. Thanks in advance for the responses!

Using your phone as a hotspot without rooting will require you to purchase the extra coverage from sprint (extra $30 a month).

Since you just bought your phone, I'm going to guess all the updates have been done to it already...but just to make sure, check your HTC software updates to make sure they are...the last few updates have really improved battery life.

Check out the rooting forum at the top of the page for more stuff about that.

Welcome to the forums!

Battery life can vary a LOT depending on your usage of the phone. If your screen is on a lot due to usage, that will drain the battery. A lot of games draw lots of power because of high CPU usage. Tethering taxes the radio and is therefore a battery drainer as well.

Lately, I've only been using my phone for checking email and occasionally some web browsing. I make about 1-2 short calls a day. If I wanted to, I could use the phone for 3 days without charging. But I typically charge every night. Typically at the end of the day, I'm at about 80% charge.

On days where I use the phone heavily, like navigating in the car, streaming music via bluetooth, and making lots of calls, the phone can drain in half a day.

So it's important to remember that these devices can do some incredible things, and the cost of that is high power consumption, but you can also use the device gently and expect excellent battery life as well. It will take a few months for you to settle in to a routine. Until then, don't make any judgments about battery life.

Meanwhile, enjoy the crisp display, smooth operation, and the upcoming Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgrade :)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I respectfully ask that you give the forum and sticky topics a once over to answer many of your questions. Answering a lot of questions in one thread can be confusing and cluttered.

If you need personal attention, feel free to message me off list and I will be happy to help you find the answers you need.
