New A20S

I don't have the app or if I do it's unlisted. I don't know how to find it. Where is download manager?
download manager? there really is not one for android. there was something called the app manager which is where you used to wipe cache and data or uninstall apps. if you are talking about where files get downloaded to, use your file manager and there should be either a folder or catagory for downloads. there should be in your settings for apps.

@Rgarner why are you asking about Download Manager, are you getting a notification? Downloads Manager, and Google Play Services are built in apps on Android that work alongside Google Play Store and probably needs updating.

If you downloaded an apk file have you found it. You would need to allow an apk install n the phone settings.

Nook from the Play Store.
G O O G L E's Play Store :)
should work, or Samsung's app store, whatever that's called now, should work but you need to let GOOGLE and Samsung bring your phone up to date if it's new out of the box or not been used for a while.

Please look in Settings and find what Android OS it's on, the last Security patch date, and probably Samsung want to update it's whole User Interface to version 2.0 to 2.5 or something.

Try look at Settings - System or About Phone (About Device) and it may say its on Android 9 or Android 10.

Look at Settings - Security (and something) - Security Update and it will give you ghe day /month/year of its last update. It may go back to 1st November 2019 so you need to let it update to August or September 2020.

The Samsung UI version probably needs to give you newer and nicer features and things than the Samsung version it was on when it was released. I haven't had a Samsung in a long while but follow reviews and such, so they have made I think two major updates on their premium and all phones afaik.

Go On Now!

Lower the trousers

Bend over

and let Google give you a good spanking

until your Android / Google phone is up to date.

If you're looking for the. apk file in Downloads, I think Samsung has it's own Files app still, and probably called My Files. Go through the apps already there.

You would go to Security settings somewhere to allow an app to install that's not from the Play Store.

If you want to move photos and files from the phone or the old phone to the SD card that's easy depending on the phone layout.

Thanks, I finally found My Files. It is indeed in the Samsung section. Downloads were in there too. It says that I don't have anything that can open that type of file (Nook). Why it needs opening is beyond me, but what would you suggest for the job?

Are we talking about an. apk file.
Is this the Barnes and Noble Nook reader app? You don't want to get it from the Play Store or Samsung / Galaxy? app store?

I can't find the setting on both my phones right now where you can allow apps from "unknown sources", but I'm not sure that's what you need.

I do have developer options but I can't find it either. It does say that 2 of the apps I downloaded can do unknown sources. How is Samsung for privacy, rapaciousness, etc.? I haven't seen much about that.

I'm not your first port of call for this, most will know better on a Samsung.

I guess you are using the Samsung Internet browser.

If I download an. apk via Chrome (too Googified for you I know) I'm given the option to open it then with a warning.

I think maybe later OS removed this from the Settings menu. I don't know how Samsung handles it.

I have been able to download apps from third parties(?), including but not limited to Files to SD Card, which took care of the screenshots. The only one I haven't been able to get, by hook or by crook, is Nook. Googoo apparently won't let me, and the others cannot be opened or installed. I tried B & N themselves, but they just lead to googoo.

Should I update Galaxy Store? I don't know whether to trust them. Maybe I could find a working copy of Nook there.

I finally found it in the Galaxy Store, but it appears to be an older version that doesn't open. Is there any way to get it from googoo and then kick 'em to the curb? I really don't want them crawling around in my phone.

I don't know either why you can't install Nook. It's not on my Play Store because I'm in the UK but it seems available.

(I was in a Barnes and Noble once, in Santa Barbara. Happy Days!)

sorry to say that BNN is no longer there, only mom and pop book stores which is actually good for SB. but anytime you loose a bookstore big chain or not is sad.

i still say that the nook app is terrible compared to the kindle app.

I don't like Amazon and don't want anything to do with that. There is no reason to make one of the richest freaks on the planet even richer. They've been talking about tackling the world's carbon emissions. The lousy truth is that their plan won't even make up for their own, let alone everybody else's. This might be a good point to mention the cover story on tech giants in the latest Harper's. There has been some backlash but with the pandemic they've gained even more power. I say hooray for independent booksellers but as far as I know none of them has such an app. If it's free and can be used with both formats I would certainly be interested.

How do I make local time the one that shows? It's got a world clock, but it seems to be centered on some other place. Also, is there a way to switch between military and standard civilian time?

I didn't know for sure Barnes and Noble had gone, but I vaguely remember reading it (no joke intended). We need book stores.

I'm totally with you on the Amazon / Bezos thing, @Rgarner. I despise them/him for many strong i(mv) reasons.

Yes I've bought about 20 items in 10 years out of laziness.

Road safety, pollution and waste, death of independent stores and suppliers, working conditions at warehouses and fragility of sub - contractors income and security, ie van drivers. Don't get me started on Bezos...

Why can't that Galaxy Store just update their version of Nook? Are they not allowed to or what? It's ridiculous to have to rely on goohoo for everything. Does Fdroid have it?

I finally can see Nook in my apps, but it seems to be nonfunctional. I can get only a white screen, no options at all. I even downloaded it from hoogoo (last resort). The reason I'm making a big deal about Nook is that I have some unread content that I want to use and it's paid for already. Unfortunately the same is true with that kindle thing. I would rather read theirs on Nook than vice versa.

I tried again and got an error message. It said something about not being able to connect to the server. I suppose it could be a problem on their end.

i saw that a lot when i worked at BNN. try forgetting your wifi connection, reboot your router, reboot your device, re-connect to your wifi. if that does not work then it could be an issue on their end.....which happened quite often tbh.

I wish I had that much control over the wifi. It's in somebody else's hands and I have no idea whose. Is there anything else I can do?

The Nook still isn't working. Is there some way to let B & N know about this? I'm probably not the only one having this trouble.
