Help (new) battery discharges very quickly

brindi

Lurker
I would normally get at least 2 days of battery life no problem. Then one morning I woke up and my phone was dead even though it just had a full charge the night before. I thought that was strange. I recharged it and noticed that it was taking forever to recharge. Like a couple p% every hour. Finally it was fully charged and then after unplugging it was discharging very quickly. Like a couple % every minute. I did all the normal stuff... reboot. Re-seat the battery. So I figured it must be the battery even though the phone is only 6 months old. I ordered the new battery.

The same thing happens with the brand new Samsung battery. Takes forever to recharge. And discharges very quickly even in idle mode with nothing running. I even turned off WiFi, data, everything to see how quickly the battery discharges and it's completely dead within 2 hours of a full charge. I even did a system restore but nothing has changed.

Keep in mind that this problem happened very suddenly. No new apps were loaded. Nothing. Fine one day. Woke up and it didn't want to keep a charge. Also note that the phone now runs a lot hotter than it ever did.

Any ideas?

Hi brindi and welcome to AF :ciao:

Unfortunately it sounds like the phone has a hardware problem, especially if its heating up and nothing out of the normal is running. The only suggestion I have, other than a repair shop, is take the battery cover off and the battery out and try using some compressed air to clean everything. If its getting real hot definitely get it looked at. Phones and batteries have been known to catch fire.
