Root New "Bugless" 2.01+2.1 apps ROM...

I'm running the 900 and everything has been great. Id image these things are much like PC cpu's in that no 2 are gonna be alike.

Just installed... and IT'S AWESOME! Made me decide to keep my droid rooted because it is very stable and a lot faster. And I also was wondering...

Now o/c to 1000 MHz and watch her FLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! :D

...has this been confirmed that it is safe for the droid to run at these speeds? I know 800-900 MHz is pretty safe. I also have heard people saying that it is not always running at these speeds, only when it needs to... is there a program to set up when you want it to run a certain speeds or does the droid just know :)?
Sorry for all the questions, I just wanna make sure this overclocking thing is safe to do.

no one really knows for sure that it's safe, but people still do it. one person just posted to the over clock thread that he had a problem with his droid slowing down, and he was going to return it. use at your own risk.

you have to use set cpu 1.44a with the rom, and it allows you to set profiles for your cpu speed.

@BigMace23 ... forget about the 1 GHz speed comment. That's old news. I've been running at 1.1 GHz for a couple of days now. Everything seems as right as rain. Yes there is risk. But I'm just the guy to take it. ;)

The new 1.1 GHz image file allows you to throttle to 125, 250, 550, 800, or 1100. Setting up profiles is the way to go for sure. My DROID isn't running at 1.1 GHz ALL of the time. Only when it has to. :D

Thanks Joe... I have just one more question though haha.... What do you have your set cpu profiles set to when the phone is charging/the screen is not on? Is 550 max and 250 min a good range (I'm assuming this is what is at at stock)?

@Joe: I am having issues getting my WiFi working after upgrading to the 800 MHz boot image - specifically, I'm too much of a n00b to get it fixed correctly - and every where I look seems to point to instructions that assume that someone is already conversant with the methodology needed to get it patched.

Can you (or anyone) else here detail the steps to get to a root recovery sessions and run the commands to apply the patch?

I'm having the same problem. The 1 GHz OC broke my WiFi, and I've read ALL the threads over at Alldroid and also here, about installing the tiwlan_drv.ko file and I've booted into recovery, mounted System and SD Card, typed all the variations of the commands after adb shell I can find, and I keep getting error messages like "mount not found." I'm sure it's something simple, but I'm sure not finding it. I would sure appreciate some help here. Thanks!

I opted to move to Pete's Bugless beast ROM, which doesn't have a problem with the WiFI, and then restored from the 1G OC boot image - works like a champ now. AFAICT, the kernel that Pete used to make the Bugless does not have any conflicts with the OC boot IMGs, so they play nicely together. At least, that is my understanding.

When I ever get those instructions figured out I may try Sholes (or others) but for now I'll stick with Pete's + 1G - Pete's looks radically better with the glassified effects on many of the widgets and the home screen notification bar anyway....

And the performance is pretty damn good too. See http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...g-my-home-wireless-connection.html#post308205 for WiFi speed tests *and* a screen cap of Speedtest.net app (with glassified Notification bar).

I'll try to make some more screen caps of my setup later tonight.

Charging - 1100 / 250
Sleep - 500 / 125
Power < 25% - 800 / 250

But I am still experimenting with this stuff.

Joe, you are the MAN!!! Thanks to you, my WiFi is up and running.

Now that Joe has taught me how to install the WiFi fix file the easy way, using only my Droid, I'm going to share the learning with you:

1. In preparation, make sure you have Root Explorer installed on your Droid (it costs a couple of bucks, but after spending HOURS trying to install this file using ADK and the run commands, it’s worth much more than that to me).

2. Download the tiwlan_drv.ko file from the tasmanian_droid forum at Alldroid to the root of your SD card.

3. Open Root Explorer, scroll down to system, then lib, then all the way down to modules. Tap the white button at the top so that it says “Mount R/O.”

4. Long press on the file tiwlan_drv.ko file, select “Rename” and add the extension .bak to the file.

5. Go back to the main directory and scroll down to sdcard and find the WiFi fix file you downloaded there, then long press and select “Move” (copy won’t work). If you’ve done it correctly, you’ll see a “Paste” button at the bottom as you navigate through the directories back to modules.

6. In modules, click “Paste,” then long press on the file and select “Permissions.” For ”User,” check the boxes for Read and Write (but NOT Execute); for “Group” and “Others,” check only Read, then tap “OK.”

7. The details under the file name should show “rw-r--r--“ and should be identical to those for the file you renamed with the .bak extension.

That’s it, your WiFi should be up and running!

Edit: corrected a typing error (Joe was right, as usual!).

I'm really liking the ROM so far. Seems a bit snappier. I rooted and installed the 0.84 to retain my data/settings. I'm wondering if that's why some of the features don't work. I had to install the 2.1 gallery.apk to get my picasa account synced. Had to uninstall the visualvoicemail myself but that was no problem. I might be able to get my brother and his friend to to try it out too.
Running Home++ on top.

LOL ... update from 0.8.3 to 0.8.4 and ya have to reinstall o/c kernel and fix WiFi again. :D

Yep, and uninstall all the stuff you didn't want from the first one, as well! It was a breeze this time because, thanks to you know who (um, you) I knew what I was doing this time!;)

There seemed to be a few more issues raised about 8.4 than previous 8.x releases...that it didn't fix the handcent issues (contac pics not displaying and contacts not displaying at all from handcent's create new message screen) among other things. I haven't upgraded yet - how is 8.4 for those of you who have updated?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not seeing the Handcent issues you're describing in 8.4 at all. My contacts pictures are displaying and when I start typing in the To: box, my contacts matching those letters/numbers display. What I am seeing is that 8.4 fixed a couple of aesthetic issues with the notifications bar (for example, now I can see the "vibrate" and other notifiers because the outlines were changed to white).

Thanks for the info...but I ain't buyin' in. ;)

I should clarify what I was asking...

1. Start a new message in Handcent (tap the new message icon at the top of the conversation list). Then tap the + icon to the right of the "To field" right on the following screen, to display your contacts list. Do your contacts all display in the scrollable list? Didn't work on 8.3, doesn't work on 8.4 either, for me. Contacts tab is empty, Groups and Recent are populated.

2. If your contacts have facebook pictures sync'd to them, do the facebook pics display in Handcent? Didn't work on 8.3, doesn't work on 8.4 either, for me.

In Handcent I get proper display of my contacts w/pics, facebook sync'd ones show up as expected...

Thanks for confirming...

I'm also still having intermittent problems w/auto-brightness...

Hmm - I am using Bugless Beast 0.7.1- I think I might stay here as opposed to using Beauty, for now. I have too much t do in the next several weeks to try to work through issues, and Beast seems to be working perfectly well, no issues that I have run into at all...

Okay, my contacts don't list when I hit the + icon in compose in Handcent either (but I don't really care because I never use that). I don't sync facebook contacts, so I can't comment on that.

Yeah - I've switched to ChompSMS, have found it's more responsive overall. Its only weakness is the Chomp popup doesn't work as well as Handcent's, so have Handcent set to provide pop-ups, and Chomp as my default when composing SMS messages. Best of both worlds. :)

Okay, I've been on Bugless Beauty for quite awhile (currently 0.8.4). Here are the step by step Handcent bug issue. Please see if they are repeatable.

Open Handcent > click on the compose icon (top left corner) > click on the "+" icon > top right corner, see if any contacts are displayed...

I am not using facebook, and I am using one gmail account for my contacts. When I do the above, I get nothing. And, if I click on the "Group" tab, all of my groups display, but if I click on one of the displayed groups, Handcent Sms "has stopped unexpectedly".

I'm not saying that this is caused by Pete's Bugless Beauty, but I doubt that Handcent Sms is supposed to work this way...
