New DINC2 owner!

Hey guys.

Let me give some background first.
I started my Android life with an Eris, returned that within the 14/30 days or whatever it was and got the Moto Droid. From there I went to a Droid X which i was perfectly happy with, until now when I needed to lock in a third line for unlimited data. On friday I ordered the Thunderbolt, boy, what a disappointment. Signal drops off like crazy, im smack dab in the middle of a LTE area, like 100 mile radius around me is LTE, yet 70% of the time the phone is using 3G. Ive even seen 1x, blew my mind. Long story short, I just ordered a DINC2 as a replacement, I need a working phone, not one with signal issues and one that needs attached to an outlet.

Oh yeah, im an ex AndroidForums Guide :) . (Stepped down do to it taking a backseat in my busy life)

Anyway. I should have the phone on Thursday. Im looking forward to it.

What should I do/expect?
Do I have to cripple the phone and run low brightness just to last a full day?
Any tips or tricks you can recommend?
Not sure if it will have Gingerbread when it arrives, but id like to root, should/can I do that after accepting Gingerbread?

Long post, if you read it all, thanks! Looking forward to your responses!

I keep the screen at full brightness and have no problem getting through the day on one charge. I've been using Juice Defender for a while and would recommend at least trying it. I use the default setting and it hasn't interfered with receiving email or text messages. I also use Screebl which turns the screen off quickly when I'm done viewing. YMMV of course depending on how much you use the phone. Over all the Dinc 2 is excellent.

Welcome. I think you will enjoy the phone, I have had mine for about 2 weeks now and overall I love it. To me the one downside is battery life, but I am coming from BlackBerry. So to you, from what I hear, you will probably be happy with battery coming from other android devices as it seems this one is one of the better ones for that.

As far as brightness, I have to, but really this all depends on use. During the week I end up barely making it through a day, however Sunday I plugged it in at night with 70% left.

Congrats on making the choice on the DINC2, I've had the phone for over a week and love it. Battery life for me is good, better than what I had with the original DINC.

mgftp - See that's the thing. From what I understand, BB's get around the same battery life as a dumbphone, but with the Android you get much more functionality usually at the cost of battery life.

XtremeAaron - I'm like you, I got the Tbolt on release day, was a good phone with lot's of issues (for me anyway). I don't live in a 4G area, but I had issues with locking up once in awhile and sporadic battery life (sometimes I could go 2 days, other a half day with 3G only and under a Network Extender). The final straw was when it started randomly rebooting, and I hadn't even done the update that caused the issue for most people. It was bone stock to boot.

Verizon let me switch to the Inc2 (had it for about 2 months now), & I have been a happy camper ever since. IMHO, the pros of the Inc2 vs the Tbolt is better battery life (never got less than a day & can usually squeeze 2 out of it), call quality (Tbolt had dropouts), better screen (Inc2 is vibrant, Tbolt looked more washed out especially at an agle), better GPS (locks in less than 5 seconds on Inc2 vs a minute or more on the Tbolt), and less bulk/weight.

The only con to me is the speakerphone, but that actually seems better after the GB update (don't know if they played around with the audio codecs, frequency range, or level but it is louder & sounds better after the update).

Hope that helps.
