Help New Firmware

I wonder what they screwed up when they launched two firmwares in one day, the first firmware seemed stable (im on it now(ke1)) but ke2 is really bugged, makes me wonder what they found in ke1 that they then tried to kix but screwed up in ke2.

No idea, but I hope they fix it quickly.. this phone is now unusable...

I only updated because i was having issues with call volumes and especially in my car the BT connection was picking up huge amount of road noise which wasn't there when I used the IP4. Virtually everyone complained they couldn't hear me

Yep, just trying again now....I have just reinstalled kies with a slightly different version than the one I used before, not sure if that is going to make a difference, im on 69% so far.

The exe I used this time is : http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...5/20110512115717796/Kies_2.0.0.11044_11_3.exe

Suggest you uninstall samsung kies and the samsung usb driver and reinstall this and start again.

Will update in a minute if its successful.

Thanks for this it worked for me..DLL load problem was doing my head.
I didn't unistall previous version just repaired using this and it worked.
I had Kies 2.0.0.11044 11 & I didn't tell me there was a newer version.

Cheers for the tip.

this is silly, i tried installing kies and get a kiesPDLR has stopped working whenever i try running it. I connect the SGSII and it tells me there is an update, then when i try updating it then crashes with FirmwareUpdate has stopped working then Kies freezes. Upon reopening it then tells me that Kies 2.0 does not support the SGSII.

Surely I shouldnt have to do all the odin stuff just to get an update....surely not.....any ideas? thanks

Hi, i read somewhere that it fixed a camera issue, I loaded it but i cannot see any difference, except for me it gave me the CSC correction to XEU for the UK.

If u on orange uk then there is a problem. Downgrade if so.

This seems to be specific to the Orange simcard
I have a simfree S2 which has this com.android.phone has stopped message on boot up, but have tried a T-Mobile simcard and the problem has disappeared:(

Yeah a few other people have said that, orange sims > force close, other sims > all ok :-(

Phones4u very kindly replaced my phone yesterday... Excellent service..

I won't be updating the firmware until I know for sure this issue has gone.. Just for the record, I too had a sim free handset using an Orange sim.. so it looks like your suspicions could be correct.

What issues do people have with KE2?

I just upgraded, but not noticing anything....yet

Is it just issues on orange and rooted phones?

Followed the instructions to the letter and get "Failed to run firmware upgrade. Unknown error occurred".

I agree with the oft-stated sentiment that Kias sucks. HTC and Apple must be LOLing.

Huh? What is messy about plugging in phone, Kies pops up. Says new firmware available. Click OK to install. Installs & reboots phone.

Sorry but I fail to see how it could get much simpler! :D

Well, it could be simpler if the procedure didn't go:
Download Kias. Crash pc. Wait for Samsung to update Kias s/w. Download Kias again. Connect Phone. Run Upgrade. Upgrade hangs at 12% then fails. Reboot everything. Run Upgrade again. Upgrade hangs at 28%. Upgrade Fails. Reboot everything. Run Upgrade. Upgrade hangs at 44%. Upgrade Fails. Give up. Long for the simplicity of "old" HTC Desire.

That would be simpler.

Couldn't agree more. I'm used to updates being installed in the background coming from HTC. Kies is a shambles. I've tried numerous time reinstalling the latest version, then when I plug the phone in it goes on a loop saying Loading MTP Samsung drivers, while trying to connect, but never actually does connect, and never correctly loads the drivers.

I've installed Windblows especially as I run Ubuntu now, and I'm still without a firmware update. Come on Samsung, you've done the hard part and made a damn decent phone, now sort out the pony software. It makes Itunes look slick and practical.

I can. The desktop software could run on a platform to which I have access ie Mac OS X or Linux.

Kies sucks. Kies Mini sucks even more because it doesn't even support their flagship phone.

OTA FTW.

For manual update if you're having problems with Kies

1) Firmware

Download the correct firmware for your phone. Extract the zip file to a tar file. Do not extract the tar file.

Sim Free Firmware - I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100XEUKD1
O2UK Firmware - I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100O2UKE1

2) Download Odin (flash utility)

Odin3-v1.85.zip

3) Prepare Odin

Launch Odin and check "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time"
Load the firmware downloaded in step 1 in PDA.

6) Factory Reset (Optional)

There are three ways to reset the phone, through Dialer, Settings or Recovery mode.

- Dialer, enter *2767*3855#
- Settings, Privacy, Factory data reset.
- Recovery mode. Power off the phone, press and hold Vol Up + Home + Power. Use the Vol keys to navigate the menus and Home to action
alright guys, which one of these should I use? I have a Vodafone GS2 with the KE7 firmware (I updated yesterday and got rid of all the vodafone bloatware, thanks god)... I'm assuming the sim free one is the one I want, am I right?

EDIT: never mind, the links seem to be broken... should Kies automatically notify me of the update? or do I have to trigger a firmware upgrade from one of the menus?

Anyone else on o2? Any ideas on firmware for us?

I got an update notification for KE2 few days back. But nothing for KE7. It says I have the latest firmware. It is an 02 contract phone.

I haver issues with the 3.5mm jack as well. Mic does not work properly. Only if it screwed in at some angle it works. Else only headphone works.

Does anyone else have this issue ? I have no other issues with the phone. Just thinking if it is worth it to get the phone changed for just the 3.5mm issue since I would have to re-install everything & buy a new screen protector etc...

If you are sure it's the phone and not the headphones, I'd definitely take it back. Not being able to use the microphone is a big deal (or it would be for me anyway) and this is not going to fix itself. Take it back now while you still can.

PS I wouldn't bother with the screen protector anyway so you can save your money. The SGS2 has the best oleophobic coating I've ever seen on a phone and you won't find a screen protector that can mimic that.

I'm on Vodafone and my SGS2 is on Firmware I9100BUKE1, has anyone else on Vodafone got a newer firmware ? and how did you get it ?

I've tried over the air update and wired to my laptop, but it says I am up to date.

Edit:
I've just check Keis again (rather than my pnone) and the Current firmware version is :
PDA:KE1 / PHONE:KE1 / CSC:KE2 (VOD)

So does that mean I've got KE2 or KE1 ??

i know this might sound dumb but there is no update button on my kies air screen so how do i update my phone?

I've linked it to the PC and all i have is the kies air menu with all my data and photos etc but no tab for upgrade
