New Incredible Owner what apps?

Tim224DT

Newbie
Hello all,

I just got the incredible last night. I used to have the BlackBerry 8330 Curve from verizon. I am not missing it as of now since this phone is super fast.

what are some apps or programs i should install on here or do?

I did the latest update on the OS software last night after i got home from the store.

My votes (& I'm sure I'll forget some must haves):

- Handcent SMS
- Pandora
- MixZing
- Appbrain
- LauncherPro
- Google Voice
- Google Maps
- TiKL

That should help get you started. I would also browse appbrain.com from your PC to get an idea of the more popular apps

app brain, and then check out the apps thread. They have a lot of good things to update you.

Bank of america has a nice banking app if you have them.
I prefer Chomp over Handscent, but many people will disagree
If you want a custom clock get beautiful widgets
News= Feedr, NY times app, Huffington Post, and for you right wingers there is a fox app as well.
Twitter- The stock is nice, but if you use launcher pro you will need to get something non stock... my favorite is Touiteur. However the one I hear the most about is tweetdeck
Engadget- If you own this phone and don't know what engadget is.... /facepalm
Movies- Queue Man, least buggy netflix app (for me) IMDB, Flixter is good for movie times
Where- decent app
Dolphin Browser- IMO best browser next to stock
Weather- weather bug- paid gives you a nice widget
Calendar Pad- My favorite calendar widget, but there are many others
Word Wise= Word with friends
Angry Birds
Bonsai Blast

Dude there are so many.... have fun.

Root your phone, save yourself the trouble of agonizing waiting for OTA updates.
Virtuous ROM gives you nice stock with extras.

Root:
Titanium Back up pro
Rom Manager
SetCPU
Root Exporer (file manager system)

I can keep going....

But I dont want to....

Please thank me :)

Congrats on the Incredible. I too was a Curve user for about 4 years prior to getting my first droid. I'd say my top 5 apps are

Handscent SMS
Zedge
WiFi Analyzer
Angry Birds
Pandora

Good luck and enjoy :)

FYI It's against forum policy to talk about and/or help someone get swype. Long story short, I switched android devices and lost my swype. I posted the same question you asked and got a warning from a Mod that this was unacceptable. Just a heads up is all

Well that is good to know.. I didnt mean to break any forum rules.

TASKER! (if you dont mind paying for an app and spending a few HOURS learning how to use it, tasker is a must have).

Here is what I do with tasker:

1. Single icon to speak current temp, weather, hi/low, and wind
2. Recursive menus for my games. 1 icon on home screen opens to a menu of "puzzle games", "skill games", "arcade games", "card games"... each of these open to the respective menu with a button to go back to previous menu. All my ames are 3 easy touches away using only 1 spot and no scrolling.
3. automatically silences all thing on my phone during church time and turns them back on after church.
4. turns on wifi when I get home and off when I leave
5. when I plug in power, gives me option of home mode, sleep mode, or car mode. example: car mode turns on speakerphone or bluetooth and turns ringer up.
6. if I send a specific SMS to my phone, it will turn on gps find the location of phone, and text a link to a map showing the location of my phone.
7. Talking clock..... says the time

It can do MUCH MUCH more. these are just a few examples

Swype is in closed beta (hence, why it would be against forum rules as they have sent out C&D letters to all parties involved in the distribution of their app as they have threatened legal action), so the only way you can get it is by signing up on their website.
