Root new kernels

I just flashed this - so far so good. I love the notifications! Much better than NoLED...... Haven't turned WiFi on yet and I think I'll leave it off for now. I just wanted to get this before Voodoo was added - I'm staying far, far away from Voodoo from now on!

Thanks for the update; geez why the heck I am not lurking on irc anymore these days  I feel out of touch with the bleeding edge of development

yeah its great to watch the discussion going on there, although i dont have much to say if at all so i just leave it open and check back every now and then. They get off track a lot but a ton of info

Think there is some type of mandatory initiation rite where we all have to bork the SF at least once. You aint a part of the club yet unless you've had to do the full odin restore or spent many minutes staring a blank screen with lit soft keys :D

Whoo hoo I'm in I the club I borked mine about an hour ago:D

Yeah disabled voodoo with the usual disable lagfix. Rebooted then booted to clockwork and flashed birdmans kernel.

To go back to voodoo i deleted the disable lagfix file and booted to car flashed dirrks kernel and was back to voodoo.

Then repeated to go back to test20

Do you keep the disbale_laxfix file on the phone even after you disable it? I thought the instructions said to remove it after?

yeah i deleted it, you could prolly just rename it slightly for future access and save a few seconds.

I got it off my phone it seems like a hassle do disable it to do backups and restores especially when it might trash your phone every time you do it.

Maybe I'll try one of birdmans. Do you have to disable it to do backups ?

i did a backup with birdmans test20 and did not need to and was able to reload it later. Birdmans doesnt use voodoo (yet) so its not an issue.

i believe its something to do with the headphone jack or bluetooth audio maybe? someone mentioned that in irc, but i dont recall the specifics

Maybe they are referring to the sidetune or sidetone but it as to do with wind sound when outside.

Now for my problem;

I flashed birdmans kernel and today I tried to make a call and as soon as the call starts to connect the screen goes blank, as though you have it by your ear, even though I am on speaker. if I hit the power button it comes back on for about 2 seconds then off again and if I hit the button again I'm at the lock screen and have to slide the puzzle piece but as soon as I'm in again it goes blank. it makes using the keypad worthless for entering anything. I'm wondering if anyone else as this happening??

Also can we use the voodoo uninstall app to also remove this kernel?
If not what is the best way to remove it? Maybe it's time to use that odin thing

just copied and pasted this as a new response from mrweee on XDA:

I was just about to do that. Just wasn't sure if that uninstall voodoo was more than the stock kernel.

10 minutes later.....
It seems to be ok now. I just tested the phone and it didn't go blank. Now I'm restoring and will see if it comes back. If it doesn't I'd say it's safe to say it was a kernel bug.

Restore done phone dialer working fine. Can anyone confirm this possible bug they may be interested in it. If no one else has it I guess it was a fluke

glad to hear it seems thats everythings good....did you odin or flash the stock kernel though?

im very interested to see what the next set of kernels will be like. jt has said he will release more voodoo, but birdman may release non-voodoo.

they may also use different lagfixes that arent built into the kernel but can be flashed on top of any kernel through some online patch.

interesting stuff to follow.....

I think i'll flash a voodoo again and then wait for the froyo update.
I'm sure we'll either have to return to stock or wait for the devs to release a version. I'll personally wait but I'm sure we'll have to have stock kernels to do any update. Hopefully we'll get a leak early I've yet to see a phone that didn't get a leaked froyo before the OTA:p

Nice, I haven't been at xda a whole lot recently because frankly nothing new has come out for days.

I think many of us know this already but some more causal viewers might not but on xda mrweeee is birdman

Yea I was just there Yesterday. NOT a fun time for several hours...but I tell ya, nothing beats that moment when you know you've brought your phone back to life.:D

I do have a question about this Color fix thing.
Is there an issue with the fascinate for which a color fix is being flashed (like the "lag problem" for which lagfix exist).
Or does the color/brightness become a problem when you root and apply the voodo lagfix?

can't seem to figure out the issue with this.

Thanks!
