NEW KEYBOARD - SwiftKey

I've tried nearly every keyboard, including this one. The one thing Swype has over all keyboards is the simple fact that you don't have to tap and pray. The reason we love Swype is that we get to ...swipe. Sure this keyboard is very forgiving, but you still have to tap.

And I'm sure it works great for you and that's fine. I tried it and it wasn't for me. Let's say swift key works great for me, should I go post in every swipe thread that swift key is the best? Personally I'm not liking swiftkey cause I like to one hand the phone and in portrait the keys are to small. Prolly go back to stock. Really impressive predictive txt but well see.

This might be going off-topic, but is swype free or do I need to pay for it ? Actually, for that matter, I don't see any paid apps on the android market from my phone. Do I need to register with google checkout or something ?

you need to remember this is still in beta. There has not been an official release yet.

Swype is not for me, so I'm trying this out. So far I like it.

Nope. Let's not forget that I was just simply commenting on a post that stated Swiftkey could be the fastest keyboard. I'm not saying Swype is better than anything else because everyone has their own preferences.

I'm new to all this phone stuff. How do I get the SwiftKey.apk file on my phone?
I'm currently using BH_MAN's Behold 2 Stock if that helps any.

Download it. Plug your phone into the computer via USB cable, mount your SD card, drag the APK file onto your SD card (any folder will work, you just need to remember where you put it). I use the root directory.

Now unmount your SD card from your computer.

Then open a file manager app such as ASTRO or IO File Manager, navigate to the newly downloaded APK file, click on it to install. Done!

TRue true ill give ya that. You weren't one of the "don't bother swype rules" gang ;) started lagging on me today though so I might want to try the next version. Still very good prediction

I did this and I tried to open the APK file ASTRO and when I click install it takes me to a Superuser Permissions page that stays black. I'll try installing it with the IO File Manager.

Alright well now I have it installed but there is no options under settings or input method.

after more than 24 hours of using this application I have found it to be ridiculously awesome. I prefer tapping versus the swype method (just my preference) and the predictive texting here is phenomenal. It quickly learns words and phrases that you typically use together and does an amazing job of learning what it thinks you will say next based on your habits. It does take a little bit of getting used to but once you start getting used to watching two parts of the screen at the same time it becomes considerably more convenient than other applications I have tried, which is just about all of them. It even has a usage portion that tells you how many keystrokes you have saved and quantifies how much more efficient the program has helped you become.

The lone negative I have found thus far is that this beta expires at the end of the month. I can only hope that there is no lapse in usability.

My problem sith Swype is that I can't find keys because my finger is covering them. I will give this a shot

That shouldnt make too much of a difficulty ;)

if you know how to touch type on a normal keyboard then you can work it out where to slide next ;)

iv just downloaded swiftkey and trying it as we speak, but got to say i prefer swype as its so much easier ;)

May as well try out SwiftKey since I've tried pretty much every other free keyboard. None of the ones I've tried has really done it for me. Swype is laggy, SlideIT is more responsive but less accurate and I hate how tiny the period is (why did they put the graffiti button right next to the period? Why include graffiti at all?), HTC Touch Input crashes too often, and ShapeWriter is just terrible.

Not sure how I feel about this one. It's not bad, but it does take some getting used to. It's also funny playing with the word prediction. If you don't type anything and just touch the suggested word, it types, "I am a beautiful person."

there was a warning message saying that the application will possibly save sensitive information like passwords and such. that doesn't get sent back to the server does it?

I had to turn off autocomplete because it would only let me type "I" over and over every time i hit space no matter what i had typed in.

Oof :(

I thought it was just me. This is a killer for me since I finally found my perfect keyboard application but this totally messes it up for full time use. I still will keep it on file for when they fix this issue since I love using it to take my notes in class (faster than any other keyboard for me) but absolutely hate it on the web browser.

Known problems that came in the email with the .apk

SwiftKey 0.9.13 known issues:
- Intermittent bug in keyboard drawing.
- Some problems in web browser fields.
- Some problems with third party app integration.
- Some problems with special characters on hard keyboards.
- SMS learning pop-up keeps reappearing on some devices.
- Auto-space needs disabling in certain fields.
- Punctuation handling needs improving - quotes, parentheses etc.
- Candidate prediction display disappears in horizontal edit mode on
some devices

This looks great! But will it be possible to choose language and dictonary self?
If thats possible it would be more awsome. I will def. try this app out!

Damn brillaint app. May replace the slide style keyboards i much love.

Tbh i wasn't thinking it was that great, until i realised that you typically only need to type the first letter of hte work and it will tell you exactly what you are about to say. Seriously incredible software.

I'll tell you something too, it will beat swype in speed hands down.

I keep getting that message. I downloaded the Dolphin browser as the faq suggests, no luck. Anything else i should try?

I will believe you when SwiftKey can beat the World Record. As of now, the swype still has the record. :)

Just in case you don't believe it's Swype, here's a video that clearly says "Samsung OMNIA II with Swype Technology"... :

YouTube - Guinness Record for Texting Challenge

I'm actually really enjoying this. I downloaded version 0.9.9 from one of my APKtor repos, and its "learn from text" is scary accurate! So far I've saved a ton of keystrokes.

Exactly, scary. Thats why I think, actually know it will be faster than slide keyboards for certain things. Because you don't even have to type, tap once to type your word. Can't beat that speed!

Here's another new keyboard in beta

SwiftKey - Revolutionary text prediction for smartphones

'Swiftkey is able to predict your next word with incredible accuracy based on what you have already entered'

Just signed up for the beta, once I've had a go I'll let you know how I get on.

I just tired this, this definitely quicker than the stock software keyboard, but in terms of speed it's Swype hands down. If you enjoy the tap, tap and tap experience then this is the way to go.

If you prefer quickness and fluidity - swype...the only way to fly.....

I was typing in a "To Do" list the word "Remove". The next word it suggests is "Democrats" !

Is this just my phone or do other people get the same result? It is reading my mind?
