Root New OTA update?!

What is this an update to? ESE81 again? What is the point of it? Does it add things or fix the radio issues? Why do they not say what it is?

OK...I read the bulletin...but have the deer in the headlight look going on.

I'm running Petes Bugless Beast v1.0 with SPRecovery and rooted, and yes my battery has SUCKED today. Down to 40% by 2pm, but haven't seen any OTA update request.

Is this something that's blocked by default?

if you have ROM manager do not apply the update yet. and try to avoid it until the clockwork team knows what will happen.

supposedly SPRecovery will block the update.

as for battery issues, trevorj over at DroidMod says if your otacerts.zip is messed up, you could be downloading the update over and over again, and since the update is a massive 69.0 Mb, this would be a pretty big power drain.
 
Is this a true OTA that will be coming to us non-rooted Droids? Is Verizon sending it? Did I totally miss the true meaning of what was posted? :)
 
it will break root if you do not have SPRecovery, it is an entirely new flash of the /system.

supposedly, all the files are the exact same as stock 2.1 now. it's just the 2.1 system in its entirety (so it can rewrite over the current /system)

it is interesting though that they would bother to do this...
 
I am guessing they ask? cause i am not using sp... will at my lunch break to make sure. i never got the OTHER update though either and used clockwork... so i think this clockwork stuff is a myth. cyanogen mod blocks i believe
 
Well I still haven't received an OTA and I'm on BB v1.0...but I have noticed my battery draining fast...or maybe I'm being paranoid

That's exactly the problem, you don't get a update notification on BB, since there is no otacerts, it just keeps downloading the update over and over agin.
 
Is there a place on our sdcard that we can check and see If the update is there or does it delete it once it fails to find otacerts?
 
I'm putting together a little update that will put otacerts back in.

Then, if you get prompted to update, just flash SPRecovery with ROM manager, let it block it, and then flash Clockwork back.

It'll be up in the NexBeast thread when I'm done testing it.
 
should this not be the "root" area?

seems like a lot of "root" topics that should be in All Things Root (Droid) are dumped into general Droid area?
 
yeah i didn't know where to post when i first heard because no one new what the OTA would do. as more information came out it seems it only applies to root users. sorry :/

it could apply to both, for one if its a new ota update, everyone may wanna know, does it just break root then? ps cyanmod users, no worries

Ok good, will this just be an Update.zip file and if so, just click "Install from SD Card" in ROM Manager?
