New PRL version

Yea, *228 then press 1. It will tell you anyway when you call. It updates towers near you to help with roaming coverage and whatnot.

Oh yea, do option 2 not 1 lol my bad. But like I said when you call some chicks voice will tell you what the options do. :)

Note: Verizon issues several PRL's with each revision, and the one you receive depends on your plan, phone model and location. The order of roaming partners among all PRL's issued on the same date is virtually identical.

Sept. 22, 2010 (includes 52011 - 52032) An update this soon indicates something wrong with the previous update.

Sept. 17, 2010 (includes 51934 - 51992)"

The PRL file is like a list of tower priorities. Not necessarily all roaming. Since most CDMA towers are shared. For example, you may be on an Alltell tower in one location and a Verizon tower 100 yards up the road...

Every time i hear something about Alltel, I remember someone saying it didnt pertain to me since they were never in NYC

does that mean its useless for me to do this?

PRL updates the roaming towers. doesn't do much in reality, but it may give you better service, i honestly dont know, it may only help during roaming. either, its there and its changed. lol

I updated my PRL yesterday after seeing this thread, and today my 3G is gone. I've done all the tricks (airplane mode on and off, phone on and off, soft reset by removing the battery) and I cannot get my 3G back. My friend experienced the same thing today with his Moto Droid but he was able to get his 3G back after turning off his phone with airplane mode still on and restarting. Even that didn't work for me.

Has anybody else had this issue or know of any other possible fixes? This is extremely frustrating.

EDIT: After trying everything and giving up, 3G randomly came back on sitting here on my desk after about a half hour of being idle. Not sure what the problem was.

I think it has to do with your area. a PRL update wouldn't do anythuing to your 3g. it's actually just updating your roaming tower list.

Yeah that's what I thought, but the PRL was the only thing that changed before my 3G stopped working. Seems all better now, not sure what the issue was.

He just used Alltel as one example. There are plently of towers by different companies all over.

Yes, you want to do this. I generally do it once a month or so, but you could also just check out online when new versions are released and do it then.

Either way, it's quick and simple, takes about 2 minutes.
