Root New RA Recovery image

corypwrs

Lurker
I was going to the irc just for fun and the title said there was a new amon ra recovery in rom manager so i went in and flashed the new image.
I now get the blue fastboot screen everytime i boot into recovery
i dont know if anyone else is having this problem but it's not good at all

You need to reflash the latest RA_GNM 2.2.1 recovery. it didn't stick on your inital flash.

And yes for those that do not know. There is a new version of the recovery. RA_GNM v2.2.1 in rom manager. It's under the alternate recovery. If you don't see it you first need to flash clockwork, then exit rom manager with the back button, then re open rom manager and you should see it under Alternate Recovery.

You might have to boot to fastboot and flash Getitnowmarketing's recovery image manually from your PC to fix the problem you are having.

Download the Froyo.zip file linked from the Ally Root Guide here: http://androidforums.com/ally-all-t...-3-2011-3-40-pm-est-now-easier-than-ever.html.

This zip file should contain GNM's recovery image (most likely version 1.2.5), extract the contents to root of c:\. If you used this method to root your phone then you might already have this file downloaded and extracted which will save you some time. You can then use the following commands from a Windows Command Prompt to reflash your recovery to Getitnowmarketing's Amon RA based recovery (assuming you have root access already):

Code:
*** Disclaimer: These commands are for testing purposes only,
by using them you will have not only voided your factory warranty,
but also cannot hold me liable for any damages done to your Phone / SD
Card / etc...***

(Make sure USB cable is attached to both your phone and PC and C:\Froyo\AndroidSDK\tools\ is your current working directory)

To reboot from Android OS to fastboot:

> adb reboot-bootloader

Then once in fastboot:

> fastboot flash recovery C:\Froyo\AndroidSDK\tools\velocity\recovery.img

Then to reboot:

> fastboot reboot

Hopefully you will be able to boot to recovery after this and can run a Nandroid backup, then attempt to reload new recovery image if desired.

I had the same problem. Like the first reply says just flash it again in rom manager. The first time I accidently installed clockwork and it took me like 4 trys for the alternate recovery to flash and stick.

Well, other than the color change, I wonder what's different in this version?

Edit: I don't know what this means, but I've found that the Backup/Restore menu has changed. There is no longer an option to backup "nand+.android_secure" or "nand+sd:ext" or anything. It's just "nandroid backup" and "nandroid restore"...oh, and the google proprietary backup and restore.

Just from piddling around with it. The differences I see are:

  1. Different coloration
  2. New backup and restore menu style
The new style is like this

What do you want to back up?
(x)boot
(x)system
(x)data
(x)cache
(x)recovery
(x)sd-ext
(x).android_secure

Preform Backup

You Place an X in the parenthesis choosing which options you want to Backup

Thanks for all the help
I didn't realize you had to exit rom manager after flashing clockwork
Everything is up to speed and working just fine now and I'm liking the new color scheme to be honest

One of the main things I've noticed is that now if you have too many files in a folder that you are browsing to to flash a zip you can scroll down which you couldn't do before. Now you don't have to worry about making a new folder to put your zip in to get to it!

...maybe I was the only one

I had that problem too.

Is there another way to get that new amonra recovery image other than ROM manager, and is it necessary for optimal action?

If nobody else gets to it, I'm going to try to make a flashable zip soon. The only problem is that I'm in the hospital right now with my 35 weeks pregnant fiance, posting from my phone...
However, it IS possible to make a flashabe zip from here...i think.

Priorities! The new recovery can wait. You may be on the verge of the most stressful yet greatest thing that will ever happen to you. Enjoy it!

Haha. It's not supposed to happen yet. We still have 5 more weeks till she's actually due. I was sitting alone in the waiting room when I last posted, now I'm in the triage room with her, so I'll have to wait to make the zip.
