Root New rooter in need of help

PazPez

Newbie
Hi, I'm a scared rookie in need of help!

I used the guides on this site to root my t-mobile desire yesterday. All seemed to have gone well, so I then did a nandroid backup and a Titanium backup. I then did a wipe and flashed Gingervillain 2.5 - all seems good.

I restored some apps from titanium backup, most work ok, nut a handful (e.g. Handcent, Goggles) FC whenever I try to open them. Any ideas why this might be?

I'm also trying to follow the A2SD+ guide, but I'm stuck right at the beginning. I've downloaded GPartedLive, which is on my desktop as a zip file (gparted-live-0.8.1-3.zip).
What am I supposed to burn to CD? I did a search and a few guides say to burn an image to the CD. In gparted-live-0.8.1-3>Live there is a .img file called initrd.img. Is that what I need?

Sorry for the simple questions, but all help is appreciated!

Thanks. I think I have more silly questions though!

I downloaded the .iso file and burnt it to DVD. Restarted my PC with the DVD in and hit f10 on startup. I choose to boot from CDDVD, but when I hit enter Windows starts as normal. What am I doing wrong???

Thanks for your patience!

I just used the Windows Explorer jobbie that pops up when you put a DVD in. I can try using an LG external drive and its own software if you think that'll help.

Ah You can't use that. You need to use a specific CD burning application and choose the "Burn .ISO" option. Its the only way it will work.

The iso image is an image of a cd. Its a copy of the cd if you will. If you use software to burn iso, its the same affect as cloning a cd.

But if you use windows explorer, you're not doing the clone thing. You're just writing the file as data to the cd.

Sorry, I need a bit more help!

I can boot into the GParted program, but I can't get it to recognise my SD.

I've booted to Gparted then connected my phone in recovery mode with mount as USB selected. But I can't see my SD card in the top right. I've tried refreshing devices too.

I've also tried connecting my phone when it's on and running normally and choosing connect as USB storage with debugging on. Again it doesn't recognise it.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Yay! I tried a different USB port (I'm on a laptop so went from using the port on the left hand side to the right) and it works.

I did a 1GB EXT3 partition. Then, as I'm running GingerVillain, I did that dalvik cache move from the first page of the XDA forum.

My internal memory according to miniinfo has gone from 30mb to 78mb. I installed Angry Birds from the market and the internal memory went down to 75mb, Is that to be expected?

Am I right in thinking that I don't need to do anything else when installing apps? No more moving apps at all??

thanks.

Yes, some apps do still use noticable amounts of internal memory, and Angry Birds is one of them, so that's normal.

And you are right, you don't need to do anything else. :)
