New Sale

To be honest, I'm surprised at how little attention the Huawei Premia 4G is getting. People were practically freaking out about the LG Spirit and LG Motion when they came out, but spec wise, this phone isn't much different. My guess is that this is primarily a case of too little too late. :)

A current look over at the Huawei Premia 4G forum shows a lot of vacant space.

lg motion is $100 smackers at best buy just picked one up...it is amazing...I don't know what any one is talking about that the screen is crap...it looks better than my friends galaxy nexus..

HHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! april fools?

At least as of the latest rebates prior to the current one, yes.

(They aren't excluded on the rebate form where WallyWhurl and BestBuy Are but I also can't get an answer as to if Metro considers them "an authorized dealer". When I got my Spirit about a month or so ago, I copied down a Faceplant convo where Metro DID say Wirefly was good for rebates.)

I've been trying to get the galaxy 3 rebate form emailed to me as well, but no luck. Lol. It should be current. Amazon still hasn't shipped the spirit so I might just cancel that.

Amazon phones are a NoGo for Metro rebates.

I didn't know that until after I ordered the spirit from Amazon, but like I said, they still haven't shipped it so I'm thinking about cancelling. Maybe I go for the s3 instead, but I think only if metro will honor that rebate (and of course send the form lol). I'm on a budget! :-)

It looks like a pretty nice phone, saw a video review on the MPCSWorldclass guy's YT page. I already own a shyyttyy Huawei phone, and surprisingly still holds up nicely after the horrific hacking/flashing experiments I've done to it. I would have killed an LG doing so LOL.... I may actually get it, hoping MPCS store down the street has one to look at :)

I'm a little hesitant to spend $269 on a Spirit that will most likely spend it's usable life running on 2nd-init. LG will never give us a way to unlock them :(

There are refurbed Spirits going to 200 on TheBay.

Nothing wrong with a factory refurb.

I be just as hesitant to spend 200 on something that will never see anything beyond 2nd-init LOL... well, maybe. 200 sounds a little better :) Oh, the side power button did that one in for me. Going to MPCS in a few minutes to look!

im curious what you mean here?

I too dislike lgs stance on locked boot loaders, but if the phone has a good dev community there usually is a way around it.

Okay, I was able to get one of the MPCS crew to actually crack open a new Premia for me to play around with LOL... I really don't get why they don't have one on display, but moving on... It's a REALLY nice phone! It's comparable to the ZTE Avid, like size, OG ICS interface, but with a beautiful crystal clear display (The Avid is a bit washed and has a lot of ghosting during scroll or animations). Huawei is definitely going in the right direction with this phone; it's peppy, very responsive and has a damn good, solid feel to it. For $150, you get a phone that will probably smoke a $350 Connect and runs like a Motion ROTB. Nice :D If old school semi-auto focus and 2GB are the only cons, so be it. I never use my camera and I have a 16GBSD. Problem solved.

Due to the phone needing activation, and an angry mob building up behind me I couldn't test everything. From what I did manage to play around with, I feel as though it will be my next one! I don't buy from corp MPCS store because they totally rip you off with activation and force you to buy shyt you don't even need.

By the way, they are having a 'sale' on sd cards with a phone purchase LOL....

What do I mean? Mostly my dislike for LG, and it's totally warranted since I own 3 of 'em :D Just saying I won't spend that kind of money on another LG phone that will only run 2nd-init ROMs and recovery. And no disrespect is intended to anybody here by saying this, but it's looking to me like LG ICS bootloaders are far from being unlocked :( And I don't want a way around the bootloader with 2nd-init; I want my phone unlocked, and that crappy LG UI off of my phone altogether ;)

Agreed entirely, and from everything I've seen, the bootloader is unlikely to ever be unlocked. Never again will I buy a phone that is locked or can't be unlocked.

^^ Yup.

Well, it's slim pickin's at Metro since locked LG phones account for 2 out of their top 3 phones next to the GS3... That sucks. $150 for a surprisingly sexy new, unlocked Huawei sounds better to me. At least I won't have that gross LG UI to look at anymore, I prefer the OG ICS. And Holo launcher, which was closest to the OG, is a POS ;)

Sorry Im not familiar with the terminology.
what are 2nd-init roms:confused:

Simply put (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), the 2nd-init process allows emulation of different programs on top of the original firmware, like ROMs or recovery, etc while using the existing firmware's kernel. That's how they've been running CM10 and CWM on the Motion with a locked bootloader.

On a device without a locked bootloader, you can completely wipe out the original firmware and run whatever ROM you want to flash, including custom kernels.

Spec2nirvash is correct.

A locked bootloader means:

  • That alternate firmwares (cyanogemod) cannot be installed properly on the device. To work, they need to be installed in a way that hijacks the startup sequence (init) and runs a second (2nd-init) set of processes.

  • Clockworkmod generally cannot be installed. Clockworkmod allows developers to make cool custom software installs easy for your device.

  • The kernel cannot be modified, so no over-clocking.

There are probably even more good reasons to have unlocked bootloader that I'm missing here.

Thank you both, I have reasonably limited experience with most LG phones, I had the Optimus M, was able to put custom recovery and roms on it, my wife has the LG Esteem, I put custom recovery on it and custom rom, and Now I have the Nexus 4, with its unlocked bootloader custom is also fine.
I realized that many LG phones needed difficult procedures to put recovery on but was not aware of the 2nd-init process.

So I was almost correct LOL :D they use 985h's 2nd-init recovery

Found this, some 2nd-init reading material for you, very interesting...
