New Sholes.info 2.0.1 ROM w/ 2.1 Apps

Messenger 13,

I am trying to load this rom onto my droid. I have followed all of the steps in this forum: http://androidforums.com/how-tips/29204-how-root-install-droid-2-1-a.html

Just supstituting the Sholes rom for the one on the forum. I copied everything onto my Nandroid folder, I also backed up the folder before copying and I am loading under a simple restore(step taken previously simple backup) and I am getting:

Error: Nandroid exited with status 25

Can you help me with this?

Victor

It's probably one of two things.

Either the ROM's name needs changed. Doesn't matter what it's called, just so it ends with .tgz. You can change the name from the recovery screen ... just mount the USB, blah blah blah, unmount and try it again.

Or, instead of putting it in the nandroid folder and performing a restore, the file needs to go into the root of the sdcard and you use the "install" option.

Sometimes some of those files need uncompressed too. The more you work with the stuff, the easier it is to figure out what's going on while you're doing it.

I am also having trouble loading the rom. I put it in my sdcard root. went sprecovery, went to install/ rom from sd. hit install on the rom and it went for a while and then said error status 2. Anyone know what I need to do?

I am done with this rom. Its crazy fast when its fast and battery life was amazing today, but when it lags..... its terrible, and it happens often :(

Your not kidding, runs really well and then it seems like everything starts crashing (FC). Varies from Beautiful Widgets, Google Maps, etc. Its really annoying. I am really considering moving back to RC1 until they get this fixed.

any having the same problem with this rom that i am? my gmail app stopped auto syncing and fetching my emails. I can only get them if I manually refresh. same thing happened when I used HC 2.1 rom, thats why I went back to 2.0.1 :( . . .

ssantan2 - Try going to menu>accounts> and click your gmail account and uncheck then recheck it. Should fix it temp. but otherwise it might be problem with the ROM.

XDA has decided to add non-htc devices!! Anyone who has used XDA before knows how awesome the devs over there are, so put in some votes for the DROID!!! Then we can have the best of the best working for us.

I will try it again but idk why that's heen happening to me no matter what rom I flash too. Not to mention this browser is laggy I might just go back to the reg one

edit:
re-flashed the rom twice now and gmail sync is working but gps is failing, its always searching for gps (the little icon blinking) and any app that uses gps cant update (beautiful home)

Hope they fixed the memory leak. My birdman v4's been holding up pretty well, even got it running at 600MHz.

Doesn't hurt to give it a try though.

Its always nice to have something new to play with, and even nicer to have a solid rom to fall back on. Been using SholesRC1 myself. Bizzurdmans v4 can hold its own as well :D

Do you mind me asking what setcpu settings you prefer?

I've just been using the default settings, 600/250. Some have reported that 600/125 also works, but the battery life has been unchanged (possibly better?) with 600/250 than I had before using setcpu (and the cpu clocked at the default 550Mhz), do I don't really feel the need to lower my minimum.

As for Sholes 1.1, everything seems good for now. I've been trying to task it real hard by leaving a lot of memory intensive apps open concurrently. So far, so good. Hopefully it can sustain the same level of performance...

I hate to think of all the hours and weekends that have been consumed evaluating various roms then backing them out and re-installing apps or reconfiguring home screens.

That said, this one finaly seems to have a usable featureset and I have yet to find a reason to go back to stock 2.0.1. The next tests are BTHF.

Mi biggest complaint so far is responsiveness. Seems quite laggy even with the CPU running 600M all the time. This may be the 1.1 ROMS doom...

If this had BTHF dialing and had been released as the official 2.0.1 update it would have really made Motorola shine from a feature viewpoint (but not performance though) Then again, G has to differentiate between product launches. If Nexus was just a new HW platform with the same HMI, CES wouldn't have had as much excitement for G...

Phone locked up for two minutes while updating market apps. MAPS did a FC. It couldn't deal with 3 simultaneous downloads? Uninstalled after 2 hours and went back to sholes 1.01 with steves backlight fix.

Huh? What aren't use just simply creating nandroid backups??? I can restore to any ROM, including all apps and settings, in less than 5 minutes.

Well, I'm back to version 4 already...this new release was laggy for me using the 2.01 home, and worse with the 2.1 launcher. Milestone browser was great, however.

I'll wait for the next iteration...v4 is still the smoothest and most most reliable for me.

When you are given the choice to install the apps, dont install the launcher. It will run SO MUCH BETTER! Also, DONT do that restore process of your old apps from ur old rom. Leaving these things OUT makes the droid run FAST and SMOOTH!

Yeah, IDk. It seemed pretty laggy when I first woke up this morning. I did a reboot and its much better now but I will just have to see how she does today. I know the battery life on 1.0 release was amazing and I hope to see the same battery results with 1.1

Just installed the new ROM - LOVE IT!!! A special thanks to @Fabolous, @messenger13 and @GrandMasterB for posting many howto's and links to howto's, and for helping me overcome my nervousness about flashing the ROM. :D:D Somehow I managed not to brick!

1.1 installed...some initial crazy behavior that led to a reboot, seems OK since then. Trying out 2.1 Launcher rather than the 2.01 Home to really test it and see how it goes.

BirdmanV4 is still my favorite overall, and will fall back if I have to, but want to see how 1.1 goes after a full day today. I did not install the brightness hack/low brightness program to avoid the autobrightness issue I had with 1.01, and that seems to have worked.

Not overclocking yet - I assume that requires other changes from the overclocking thread...1.1 doesn't include support for overclocking on it's own.

Couple things that is keeping me from using this ROM. First, the memory management is still not near as good as it is with say stock 2.0.1 or even Berzerker's 21apps201.rom. To see what I mean try opening several things one right after the other and eventually on the sholes rom it will slow down dramatically and when you look at running services it will show like 1-2 megs available for memory. It even said 0 for me one time. Second, the keyboard is like what it was with 2.0. It doesn't register keys as quickly like with 2.0.1. To test this out, type hahahahahahahaha and with the sholes rom it will not correctly type out. With 2.0.1 or Berzerker's rom it will. So even with overclocking, I think the sholes rom isnt worth it yet. I will continue using Berzerkers rom with launcher2 removed and t3hsteve RC1 upgraded multitouch browser.

I will confirm that the memory management is lacking. You dont have to do much after boot before it drops below 20MB available and then the lag sets in. It's too bad :( On the bright side they are moving in the right direction and things will only get better with time :D

Many thanks to all involved!

@PerCompLLC Thanks!

Funny - just got back from visit to local art museum w/the family, and I actually backed out while I was at the museum! Did a nandroid restore to my Birdman V4 and I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever want to leave it! ;)

My issues:

- Severe lag/freeze on home screen (launcher2) and app tray after a few hours of really very little use
- Camera sometimes just would not launch, or would launch eventually and then not take pictures
- News widget would not accept touches to show stories, or behave bizarrely while trying to display them

I hope they keep working on this, but it's not there yet for me, anyway.
