I'm not holding my breath. I think it may be operators holding it up, ie they are 'testing' the unbranded version

That message is a blatant fob off. If they still needed to test and approve, then why have they released it to O2 etc to brand and push out?

At face value, it appears that the author of that message doesn't know what is going on in his own company, is pants at customer comms in not explaining this obvious discrepency, or (and hope this isn't the case) just sticking out anything official sounding in a hope to reduce the wahiling and gnashing of teeth.

I may of course have missed something and if I have someone please point it out. I just can't see how or why Samsung would release untested, unapproved base software to network partners risking a very angry customer base and potential litigation. Are there any alternative possibilities?

I think you have about covered it.
Which leaves a couple of explanations.
Samsung released an early version to the Operators that 3 and O2 released before Samsung found some bugs and decided to delay the rest of the releases to do more testing and fixing.
or
O2 and 3 paid Samsung a wad of cash to delay the other releases to unbranded and other networks to give them an "advantage."
Although if the version they have released is buggy, the last laugh is on their rivals.

It is rolling out for the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and Xoom according to this:-

"We’ve started rolling out Android 4.0.4, Ice Cream Sandwich, to UMTS/GSM Nexus S, Xoom Wi-Fi, and HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus devices, and we'll be rolling it out to more devices in the coming weeks. At least it shows that Google acknowledge that there are inherent problems with Android 4.0.3.

Like we didn't already know! :rolleyes:

Hopefully, some, if not all, of these updates will be incorporated in the next round of releases.

I have my SGS2 on Three... people on page 2 say they updated via Kies... but when I connect nothing is there to update? Do I need to do anything else to update to ICS?

Just tried the latest version LP4, works fine but the performance is not as good as the others.

Every benchmark I've run is scoring a bit lower, especially quadrant for some reason, looking at the score it's it's single core only scoring 1000 less, stupid Quadrant. :D
 
damn when is Samsung mobile UK gunna release ICS.
Better come with 4.0.4 or it would've been a total time-waste.

And why are there so many damn ICS threads?????

(Not meaning to inject anything negative into a thread for people waiting for their ICS. I'm waiting, too, but not sure what I want/need that it does/has).

Yeah i got it via OTA about a week ago and im really starting to regret it, battery life seems to be a major concern now and also ive noticed a few annoying bugs, nothing major like but still makes me want to ram a cork screw through the screen :(
 
Over 80+ ICS, Android 4.0.3, releases for various regions and carriers with more being released all the time.
