new to fourm and Droid X

Hello everyone,

1st time posting and 1st full day owning a Droid X...well it is also my 1st full day in having a smartphone too so i have some questions i'm hoping someone can help me answer.

1st: i setup facebook on my accounts page and now i have all my friends in my contact app. How do i remove all the ones that i dont have a phone number for? Is there a better way of deleting them besides 1 by 1.

2nd: What apps are a must. So far i have facebook and advance task manager.

I've downloaded the latest updates so what else is recommended that i do. i've read the manual so i think i know where everything is. just some good tips and tricks would be nice to know.

Thanks everyone!!
Joe

Welcome to the forums!

Why I would have to say the Phandroid app would have to be the first one I download.

Welcome, enjoy your X!

Beautiful Widgets is a good one for weather and time on your screen.
There are a lot of good ones out there, if you want to search the market on your computer you may want to check out Appbrain as well.

thanks everyone for replying. Does anyone have any answers for my 1st question. I loaded SyncMyPics and it only did about half of the pictures i needed. Other than that, keep the good apps coming. Thanks

Got these from another board.

Just go to Applications / Manage Applications, make sure via Settings / Filters that you're showing all the sys apps too.
Then edit settings for the 'Contact Storage' app and 'Clear Data'.
That will clear all the contacts on your droid.
You may want to turn off sync beforehand
I searched for the "Contact Remover" app. It is free and allows you to "select all" and delete your entire contact list. Including all the contacts that are synched in from facebook. very easy!!!

Well, I will suggest a few.

- Gesture Search by Google.

- a flashlight app that uses the LEDs

- if you have multiple gmail accounts, Gmail Notifier is pretty handy.

- PicSay is kind of useful for creating customs contact icons quickly

- and SwiftKey has been my big time favorite keyboard, and I have tried a few.

Welcome aboard!

i've tried what rudybow posted and it cleared my contact book but you must RESTART your phone. i didn't realize that part till i gave up after an hour of wondering why mu contacts didn't clear lol.

Ok so is rooting like jailbreaking or unlocking? is there a thread around here for restoring your phone? I'm not planning to root my phone but knowing how to restore it might be a good idea.

Yes rooting is comparable to jailbreaking the phone. Here check out this link for rooting its kinda the holy grail of root for the most part. Wifi will allow a faster data connection than 3g and it is also more battery efficient than the 3g data network.

Another question. Even though i'm on the 3G network, When if ever should i use my WiFi and why would i use it?

I rarely ever use WiFi and let the 3G do its thing. I have not had many problems. However there have been times when I was watching a movie at home on my X and while 3G was just fine, going to WiFi on my home network had the feed a little better. I have found I can stream better in 3G on my X than on WiFi on my home PC, but if I need the extra kick I put it in WiFi and it blows away my home PC. It must be all the crap on it and Windows that slows it down.

So the short answer to your question would be, if you have WiFi and 3G is just not cutting it, that would be about the only time you would have to switch. Oh and if you are flying and the plane had WiFi on board then you may want to switch as well. :D

To your first question, I'm not sure about clearing them in bulk, but you do know you can set favorites and other groups, right? I rarely use my complete contact list.

As for apps:
Launcher Pro Plus - so much better that the stock home.
Switch Pro Widget allows you to toggle a number of different setting
Widget Locker lets you put widgets and shortcuts on the lock screen
WeatherBug Elite is a great weather app/widget
ESPN Score Center for sports
Droid Light - flashlight
Angry Birds really is a fun game - my kids like it too.
SkyDroid golf GPS range finder

to answer the wifi question :

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

speed test on 3g : 1.19 mb/s download; .35 mb/s upload

speed test on wifi : 18.25 mb/s download; 3.19 mb/s upload

so depending on how you're using the net at a given time, wifi might be a better choice.

i have used 3g quite a bit, though, and i have nothing but good things to say about it so far.

Thank you all very much for the information guys, you do not know how much it means to me. 1 more question ( 2 parts), 1st: How do you transfer music onto the X? is it just a simple click and drag into the phone? 2nd: Is there a app for using iTunes? I know it is a iPhone thing but wasn't 100% sure. Thanks

Joe

To get music onto your phone -- Yes -- drag and drop is pretty much the easiest way. Just put your phone into Mass Storage mode once you USB it and then drag and drop.. :)

so i got a $20 visa gift card today and am thinking of putting some paid apps but don't know what. The one that post people put on the forum is beautiful widget but looking through the screen shots...i don't know if i'm 100% sold on it yet. Does anyone have this and tell me their thoughts on it. Also, i need some thoughts on other apps as well. Thanks
