Root New to Gingeritis 3D..couple of quick ??'s

Hey Everyone,

So I flashed Gingeritis 3D Beta V two days ago, so far I do like it, IMO it is much smoother running than Das BAMF 4.9, but there are a few things I am unsure how to achieve/do.

First thing is the Chainfire 3D app in my app drawer..I have NO CLUE what that is, or how to use it. I am assuming that is what I use to get the "3D" effects but I don't know what I am doing with that...The second thing I didn't know how to do was adjust my CPU settings..I don't have the Toolkit that comes with the BAMF ROM's and that's where the CPU controls were before :(

The last issue I am having I brought up in the actual ROM thread somewhere in the All Things Root thread list, but I was unable to get a fix for it, and that is the weather problem I was having. My weather APP still says I am in my hometown, and I drove from NJ to FL yesterday, and the city never changed my location...if I open up a web browser and go to google, it has the correct location for me on the bottom...but my Weather APP and my Weather Widget won't change my current location what so ever..is that just something that everyone running this is having problems with, or is it something that I can fix/re-do?

If anyone has any possible fixes to anything I have mentioned above, I would greatly appreciate some help setting up this ROM completely to my liking, just missing a few things as of right now :p

I have no idea what that app is so I can't help you with that. AFA the CPU settings, if there's no toolkit or Gingeritis Settings menu/app then you can d/l setCPU from the market (free somewhere on xda oif you're a member) There are numerous references all over about how to use setCPU and it's pretty self explanatory once you open the app.

The weather location seems to be a problem for everyone running GB right now. AOSP or sense, people are having issues. In your weather settings there should be an option for "force weather location" or "set location manually" I use Minimalistic Text for my weather and use the "set location manually" for a couple of days and then switch it back to "find location using GPS" (or whatever it's called) and I never have problems after that.

Side note, I'd been having problems with CM7 and WeatherBug finding my hometown. It didn't really bother me because it's not my main weather app (it's part of Fancy Widget Pro). I flashed CM7 RC1.4 last night and right off the bat it found my hometown without any work around. Highly impressed

The chain fire app allows you to download games from the tegra zone found in the market. Normally those games are reserved for dual core devices.

You must use either speed tweak with the kernel or use setcpu for adjusting your frequency.

Chainfire 3d allows you to download and play dual core tegra games (and powervr gpu optimized games). the free version has some tricks renaming stuff ect to work so I cant help there but I can tell you a little about the Pro version. First thing you do is a nandroid backup incase it goes wrong. Basically first you open the app and go to where it says CF3D driver, click install and let it install the chainfire3d driver. Your phone will then reboot. Then you download the plug ins to the root of your sd card that allow you to play the games not intended to be played on your device. You can get them here: Chainfire 3d and all the plugins for THD games edit okay the link no longer has live downloads but it does have instructions. found a live link with all the plug ins (extract the zip after downloading) http://www.multiupload.com/18ECNP4UH1

Then you hit install plug ins and the app will go thru your sd card, find and install the plug ins. Next thing you do is go to fix market and hit it which allows the games to show up in the market. Once you download the tegra game you want to play go back to chainfire and go to per-app OpenGL setttings. click the tegra game app (or any app you downloaded optimized for tegra) and click use plug in and select the tegra plug in). Now you can play tegra games. This works for many but not all tegra games. For Powervr (samsung) optimized game follow the same per app process using the powervr plug in instead. Games that I know work are GOF2 THD, Guerrilla Bob THD, Riptide GP although the colors of the jetski driver is a little funky. I havent tried any other. Like I said earlier using the free version requires additional steps to work and there is no per app selection you have to manually turn the plug in on and off every time you want to play a tegra game.

For the weather app, if your using Beautiful Widgets or anything but the Sense weather its the not the ROM simple as that. Sense weather app updates location flawlessly. The app is only going to update to what you have it set to so if you have it set to every 4hrs ect your location updates may be slow. I drive all over and have never had a problem with any Sense rom's Sense weather changing location. even the lockscreen updates on time. Beautiful widgets on the other hand can be iffy unless you use force GPS (and are outside) and other times it works well (with and without forcing GPS).

To overclock your going to have to download an overclocking app (although I believe its set at 1344 on boot. there are several (setcpu, cpuboost lite and pro, no-frills cpu control, cpu master ect). If you want to use speedtweak in terminal emulator you'll have to flash another kernel that supports it (Ziggy's kernel that comes with is a keeper though IMO).

Thanks so much for the lengthy reply. To be honest I never really thought of getting into gaming on my phone, but after reading your post on how cool it sounds I think im going to be looking into it...

The weather I am using is just the Sense Weather, and ive been in florida for two days and sstill no change...do I need to reflash the rom? And do you think maybe restoring data in titanium could have been the issue causing mine to not update?

Restoring the data could definitely be the issue. Never restore any system app data (that would include ALL Sense apps). When u manually refresh what location displays? Does it give u a false location or tell u no weather data is available?

I reflashed gingeritis today, and weather is working flawlessly now...I also had an issue with the lockscreen icons not showing up (Sense 3.0 lockscreen with the 4 shortcuts) I couldn't get any icons to show up, so i just figured I would reflash, only restored data for Angry Birds ans a few other essentials, so far ive gotten no FCs, weather is working great, and my lockscreen is fixed...this ROM is definitely an excellent piece of Sense 3.0 goodness :D
