Root New to rooting.

Nitsu ftw again :) I actually never had to flash it on dj05, it came with Blackhole. JT should really throw it in Clean.

im quoting jt on this (more or less from memory) "eh i didnt get around to putting reboot options in, just flash a theme to get them anyway like i did"

he does so much anyway, he gets a pass on that one :D

Is there a certain reason you are looking for 1212? I'm on mobile now and the only thing I have access to on here is 12/3 stable I have it in dropbox on here. If this doesn't help maybe someone else might have it

Also if you have never did voodoo before I would recommend starting out with non voodoo there are some great non voodoo kernels out there. Geeknik even put out a OC non voodoo

The latest voodoo kernel for JT1134 i think is 12/21 unless you are looking for something else.

yeah jt has it linked in his voodoo post at xda.

but yeah again good point about voodoo in general david....everyone has different comfort levels and knowledge of flashing...just sometimes when we see its someones first post asking about voodoo advice like that is good :)

Hi can someone please verify that I have my facts correct here before rooting my SF that is coming tomorrow? Reposting in thread to get more action :p

1)install samsung drivers
2)root- one click method
3) install CWR through odin or rom manager? does it matter?
4)backup
5)flash jt's superclean rom version4? Is that the latest version?
6) is it at this point I flash stupidfast kernal? Do I just do that through rom manager? And Do I get rom manager from the market?

I've been doing lots of reading, but I think my brain just doesn't process this stuff that well, lol. Will doing this fix my possible gps issues or do I need to upgrade to djo5 or whatever??? haha, please excuse my ignorance :p Thanks to all that feel like helping me out!

1. yes
2. yes the one from androidcentral is fine
3. cwr HAS to be pushed in odin in d/l mode, then flashed twice in rom manager afterwards...you should then be able to boot into cwr
4. yes
5. that is the latest version for dio1...dont flash anything higher than that or its for dj05
6. yes you can flash a stupidfast kernel from rom manager...i believe 1.23 was the last dio1 kernel from geeknik...yes rom manager is free in market

gps is not fixed by any of these things...dj05 is the only real gps fix for 90% of the fascinates out there

Well that sucks that it won't fix the GPS... I know to flash dj05 I need to flash the radio/modem too right? Of course, I've searched high and low to find all the info I have up to this point. Maybe I'll be lucky and not have gps issues :) Well I will atleast start with what I outlined and then once I feel comfortable I could upgrade to dj05. Anything I should know before doing so? Oh and to get in D/L mode on my phone. I turn phone off, pull battery, put battery back in, hold vol button while plugging into comp??? Is that right? The directions didn't say to put the battery back in, but I don't see my phone getting a yellow triangle with no battery installed... Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

yeah before even thinking about dj05...take care of business with root and recovery :)...its a lot to try and do all at once

there are two thoughts on download mode: my personal one is battery pull, battery back in, hold down volume and plug in usb cord

others are to not put the battery back in, hold down volume and plug in usb..*most* instructions will tell you to follow it this way....ive never had an issue doing it my way though :)

Just had to thank all of you guys, like nitsuj17 on here for providing such great info on how to root and what roms to use. I am a total newbie, in fact I just purchased my first smart phone ever last week and had never even heard of rooting until I googled Fascinate Lag fix because I felt like my phone was a little slower than it should be. Now I am running DJ05 superclean rom version 0.9 with geeknik stupidfast v1.54, both of which I found on Rom Manager. I did bypass the whole flashing of the Radio needed for dj05 and quickly discovered that text messaging does not work without it! Anyway, phone is running great now with the radio, also using barnacle wireless tethering, pdanet, root explorer, dolphin hd, and hancent - all of which I learned about by reading your posts for the most part nitsuj17 lol.

nitsuj17, just wondering if there is anything else you might recommend for me to beef up my phone and get some more cool apps, kernels or whatever. I don't think a Voodoo kernel is for me, but I was just wondering what your suggestions might be for me. Any help would be most excellent and appreciated, thanks!

Ok, I rooted, installed CWR through odin and flashed through ROM manager. Made a back up too. Now... I'm thinking why not just flash a djo5 radio, kernal and rom and be done with it. Every link I find to D/L the radio and other files needed is "forbidden" by my computer. Instead of searching everywhere, can I flash all these through rom manager? I should just look before I ask, lol... But you seem to have all the answers :p

It would be possible to flash a kernel and rom for dj05 from rom manager....but the radio has to be odin...,really no way around it. :)

Glad to help :)....sounds like you are in good shape so far....maybe trying so of the other stupidfast kernels and seeing if they help performance at all...,there are tons of themes out there too for you to check out...,i maintain a thread on all active themes and roms...,jts in here somewhere or check friscos root stickie. :)

So i flashed the dj05 radio, now I should go into rom manager, d/l the roms of my choice (I'm thinking jt's superfast and stupidfast kernal both for djo5) and then flash through CWR? Am I missing anything? I don't need to flash anything else first?
Thanks

Wow, I am really impressed with myself at this point because everything went very smoothly. When I was going to flash Jt's superclean dj01 rom, I saw a puzzle_lock.zip attachment that could be added to that rom. Can I add that to Jt's dj05 superclean that I installed? A lot of questions, but we all have to start somewhere right ;) Now maybe I can try to find some girlyish themes to add if there are any out there. Thanks so much for all your input.

puzzle lock just brings back the original lock screen that came with the phone...but it can be done in rom manager as well under jt1134 if you dont like the glass unlock :)

Could you elaborate on this?

I am using the latest stupidfast and superclean, but I only have access to the slider unlock regardless of which lock screen I have checked off in the settings (which I understand, I know I need to add the lockscreen of my choice).

When you say add in rom manager, you mean within the app? Or to install a zip from recovery? I have yet to use the rom manager app for anything but getting into recovery, so I am unsure how one uses it for anything else.

the glass unlock/puzzle unlock in settings is only for answer calls....you have to navigate to jt1134 in rom manager and find restore puzzle unlock or whatever its called to change the lock screen

BTW... you are the man! Do you take donations cuz I definitely should be sending some funds your way. This phone is sooooo much better than my eris. I only hope that the gps is good to go the first time I try it :)
