New Update Out... Failed

My stock phone just downloaded a 20mb update, rebooted, and failed during the update process. Tried it twice now and failed both times. Wonder what it is...

On my third attempt the phone now says that no new update that the current software is up to date. So I guess it was a glitch on ATTs end.

I did a factory reset and then the update worked. It put me on 2.3.6 The only difference i see is the unlock screen

Has anyone else confirmed that phone must factory reset for update to work? I don't want to do that and end up with another failed update.

My phone did the same thing actually went thru the whole process of downloading, shutting down and booting back up only to fail to install. Getting the same message as earlier poster check back in 24 hours and current software is up to date.

Phone is on 2.3.5 version now.

I am already on 2.3.6 and still got the update notice which failed at 75% like every other failure. Interestingly I was on the ATT store network at the failure

ATT tech support told me it might be too much traffic on their server, The one update try every 24 hours is annoying.

You can get around that by going into your settings>Date and Time>Uncheck the box to use network information and then set the date to tomorrow.

You will be able to check again.

You can then go back and check the box and it will revert back to the correct date. It will then show that you can't check for more updates for 48 or 72 hours or whatever date you set, but you can just go back in and change the date again and repeat.

From reading the thread on xda, it looks like you have to have the stock recovery (3e) or else the update fails.

I'd like to update, but I am not very familiar with how to put back 3e recovery (currently have stock rooted ROM with CWM recovery from rooting). From what I've read, I use Odin to flash the 3e recovery file (just the same as I did when I put CWM on during my rooting). I just want to make sure, 1)This is correct, and 2)I don't know where to get the original recovery file... I may be thinking about this too much, but I really don't want to brick my phone!

Any help from out there is much appreciated!

Here is a capture after the upgrade.

The update fails for me. I'm running stock ROM (2.3.5) and stock recovery (3e), but rooted (using Skyrocket Easy Root). It says "Update is failed" at the 75% mark, consistently, 3 times.
