Root New update

I'm really surprised the Awe or any of its variants never received 4.4.X officially... It's more than capable hardware wise and newer ZTE devices seem to be getting updates with various MVNOs ... Well on a side note I'd say people who missed the early iterations of Lollipop didn't miss anything but a whole lot of bugs. (everything prior to 5.1.1 IMO) while the most cosmetically improved version with lots of functionality... It was the least polished and most problematic version I've used, granted its also the most ambitious update to date...it still felt rushed. I hope M sorts out all the known/still existent issue in Lollipop and just polishes up the existing code...we shall see I guess.

I agree, although the hardware was crippled from the start with the deactivated core. So the intent was never for it to reach its full potential...

If I flash this, I won't actually lose root will I? Not that I couldn't reroot but I remember it was a bit of a hassle the last time. I'm interested in flashing it so that I'd have BO7 all the time, even after complete wipes and different installs. I've been traveling the past 3 weeks for work about 3 hours a day and have another week to do it too. I've noticed though, my reception is terrible. Once I leave Pendleton, IN...I have no service (-125 usually on signal strength) all the way to my destination, Greenville, OH...where which if I'm lucky, I manage to get -95 but usually don't. If BO7 helped my reception, I could really use it for the next week.

Edit: By "this" I mean the BO7 Full v2 zip. Thought I had sir Spock quoted but apparently not :)

Actually the warp 4g and boost max are variants and have official KitKat. I've been trying to use the boost max kernel code on the awe, having display issues.

The zip isn't rooted, make sure you flash the latest SuperSU zip on top of it to maintain root.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Reef and the other 3G variants that share the same lineage as far as kernel/board etc. When you say display issues are you saying its unresponsive or its just not displaying properly?

The 3g vs 4g doesn't matter, we still have the same soc and kernel source. I would guess the difference is in the modem firmware.

When I run the boost max kernel the phone boots and is accessible by adb, and you can see the LCD backlight, but the display is black/blank. Probably a change in the GPU code causing it but I've had little time to track it down. I talk about this in the awestruck thread.

Yeah I was about to ask you if there was a difference in GPUs and or drivers.

The difference should just be configuration parameters. Same soc, same GPU. Just has to output in a different format for the screen to be able to read it. With my luck I'll end up going through most of the code and it'll be one line.

You guys got me thinking, and that's always a dangerous thing. What if the kernel is fine and it's just incompatible with the rom or at least the libraries? So I went back and recompiled the "new" kernel and threw it into SuperR's KitKat ROM. I get the flashing android logo! But it stops there, taunting me every 3 seconds. No ADB connectivity, but MTP gets recognized. I know jack about porting prebuilt ROMs between phones guys, I could use some help getting this to go all the way.

Calling this project Sulu for now, you know, "warp speed Mr. Sulu"... I'll show myself out.

So uh, I realized I'm an idiot and forgot to wipe. But hey, I also fixed ADB on boot. THIS BOOTS!!! 3G data, calls, and text work. Wifi and camera do not. Settings is finicky, the security tab crashes. But hey, some progress! And you can bet I'll have WiFi soon. Please help me test!
