New version of Swype for DROID ... just installed.

How do you get the voice to text to work? The menu button doesnt seem to work thanks

That feature is not included with this app. There are more than 700 requests for this feature on the Swype forum website. If I remember correctly, the Swype team said that they are currently working on implementing this feature in the next release.

i checked those places and no swype leftovers but it still doesn't work. i'm gonna try it a couple more times and hope it works.

It's a good idea to re-dowload the Swype Installer, rather than continuing to try to download from the same installer. It could be that there are some Swype Installer glitches that are causing it to DL the wrong version.

you definitely want to uninstall the old installer and the old swype before you do anything with the new one. once you have the new installer, it will download the new swype for you. it seems like they might be having some server demand issues, so if thats where your having your problem then just wait and try again later.

i have moto droid unrooted 2.1 and it worked just fine for me on the first try.

somebody said there was a voice to text button somewhere in the swype menu, but i dont see that anywhere. its important that they add that. HOWEVER i use handcent for sms and the menu button in handcent has a "SPEAK" option that pulls up the same voice to text thing as the microphone button on the regular keyboard. so if you want voice to text + swype (for sms anyway) you can do it that way.

i got nothin for email or anything else tho = /

Yeah, that is what the folks at Swype have said for all versions they released. You always need to uninstall both the installer and the app (app first then installer, technically, although I have proven that the order of uninstalling really isn't important, as long as both are gone before you download the new installer)....

Since the new version seems to be working, looks like I may have a go at it again.

Oh, and as for not getting a notification - HA! I never added my other Google account to my phone - no wonder I never got a notification....

It is sitting in my inbox the whole time.... *facepalm*

On another note, I now have my new Swype Beta version themed:

-Well, that just convinced me!

...M'okay, how'dja do that? I can't see how anywhere. :)

I had to move the com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk from /data/app to /system/app and use the new Metamorph to apply a theme by Calebv2: • View topic - Lots of swype themes. You have to be rooted.

Be careful when you're looking at these theme links though. The ones pictured at the top of the post are Metamorph themes you can apply to the new Swype beta after you move it to /system/app. The ones in the links are fully themed versions of the older Swype (version .5612).

Yeah, that is where I found my original black themed 5612.

Glad to know the new themes are still working with the New Swype - time for a matching one for NexFro!

I've been using my green one with NexBeast (same theme) and I think it matches PERFECT! Just my opinion, though!

And by the way, guys, it took me way too long (and too many tries too many different ways) to get the new Swype into /system/app. The EASIEST way (which probably should have been obvious) to get a working version of the new Swype into /system/app (I had FCs galore on every other method I tried, including unistalling Swype and then pushing a copy of the apk from my SD card to /system/app using adb) is to do just as I said in my post above: use Root Explorer and simply MOVE the apk from /data/app and paste it (don't forget to Mount R/W) into /system/app. When you do it that way, you don't even have to change permissions. Mount R/O and you're good to go.

Great, thanks for the heads up. Gonna grab some grub and then work on this - not sure if I want to theme it yet, but if I do it is gonna be black on black, with some sort of color for highlighting only.

I had to try 6 times before I had success. My best advice is to keep trying -- but make SURE all vestiges of the original are gone. Check in /data/data to ensure that there's nothing there for com.swype.android.inputmethod and also go into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Filter>All and make sure that neither Swype nor com.swype.android.inputmethod.apk is still in the list.

+1
exact same thing happened to me so i did the exact same thing and now it works :]

GDIT!!!! WTF is going on? I just got the same stupid message about the limited functionality that I used to get.

R U F'ing KIDDING ME?????

...Had to thank you twice for that one, GLD!.
I LOVE my Droid! lol I loaded the green. Super snazzy, goes with the Sweeter Home theme I created.

Sigh. Gonna have to go through 6 installs - and possibly contact Swype for another extension....

GDIT!

Okay, take some DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP breaths and see my post early on in this thread above. I kept getting that, too, and FCs and all kinds of crap, but I kept trying and finally got a perfect one DL'd. It was worth the struggle for me, but of course it's up to you.

Just saw your last post, which must have landed while I was typing. FWIW, I didn't get any "you've exceeded the maximum number of dowloads" messages, so it's likely you won't either.

OK, I checked all thos elocations, and nothing showed. However, this time when I uninstalled Swype, I first did a force close, followed by a Clear data, and then finally uninstalled it - for the main Swype app. There was no way to FC the installer, but there was still data to be cleared.

So, I think (gonna test now) that simply doing all of those should work.

if I get success, I'll write up the steps a bit nicer so they are easier to follow.

Same SH*T, different install.

Nothing was anywhere where you indicated, GLD, and furthermore, I rebooted in between the uninstall of the old (new) packages and the install (after a new DL) of the new packages.

While their app is awesome, I am getting to the point where I am sticking to my leaked black-modded 5612 and be done with it. I should not have to disinfect my GD phone every time just to install their app....

I've been lurking in the background here, pondering whether to take the plunge or not... but honestly, I'm running a black and green themed Swype, and it works perfectly for me. No problems whatsoever. It really could not be better. I might decide later to jump through the hoops for a working install once Pete puts a Froyo Beast in Rom Manager and I install it. I really don't want to go through all this again with Swype once I install Froyo.
