Newbie here (oh no i hear you say)
I have just bought the lg gt50 for my son and he asked me to update it for him. I have an iphone and can do that no problem.

Is there step by step instructions (hopefully including files needed) to upgrade (on 2.1 now)

I cannot even get into fastboot. i power on, hold the camera button down but after the LG logo dissapears the orange logo appears.

Any help please. I hate it when things like this defeat me.

PS i have googled it but all instructions follow the fastboot which i cannot get into

Without adding more fuel to the fire... I would recommend following the link given by Delsus. Updating to 2.3.4 or even an earlier CM7 Rom from that thread he's linked to will give you a chance to have a play and then decide if its the right rom for you. Installing via fastboot and recovery are much more preferred methods over using an .exe file to install for you. Laymans terms you're using an image file instead of a program. Uploading and installing via fastboot and the KDZ updater mentioned in that link will be the best bet. Make sure to make use of the search function if you get stuck at any point as most errors or issues have been covered in that thread...

Welcome to AF and happing modding :)

Its better to get 2.3.5
There is the link below.
Using recovery would be a lot easier.
[ROM][Gingerbread] 2.3.5 | CyanogenMod 7 | SwiftDroid (v2.0 RC4)| Mur4ik - xda-developers

Good luck

P.S. i used the link below

The OP's phone is running stock 2.1 so they dont have recovery.

I would prefer Dudeman's post for an initial install, call me paranoid but I dont trust .exe installers, 1 small syntax error and you could brick your phone, manual installs for me all the way.

Also this one is not really the best way, from stock 2.1 you have to use fastboot and because dudeman's links are from Mur4ik (who makes Swiftdroid) they are trustworthy and with the manual install there are no programs that could glitch or stop responding which could both brick the phone.

Also after CM7 is installed you dont need to use this post to keep data, you just use recovery.

Edit: Yay 100th post :)
