Hi all. Im am new too rooting and after a lot of thought i finally rooted with my Evo 4g with Revolutionary.io answered yes to clockworkmod and flashed superuser. I have been looking thru the themes and this is were im lost. There are so many roms and themes it alittle confusing. Do i have to install a rom to install a theme? One theme "Red Venom" for an example has a download for Pyarmid and Shooter. Are thoses Roms?..If I didnt want to change roms, where could i find themes that would work for my phone now. If I change roms how would i go back? My biggest question of all thou what rom do i have? Where do i find that info.

Heres some info:

Sorry for all the newbie questions and that you for any help you can offer.

Congrats on rooting and welcome to the forums!

Roms are the operating system that your phone runs on. Some are themed and contain extra options and tweaks. Some are just like stock with some basic improvements. First thing before you flash a rom/theme is to verify that it is for your phone. If it is not, you can possibly brick your phone and make it difficult to recover from. The most stable rom I have seen to date is MikG 2.61. There are a number of themes for this rom located on Mik's website theMikMik - The Front Page

Most likely you have a rooted stock rom currently and I don't believe there are themes available for it(though I might be wrong). You would need to flash another rom in order to use a theme. If you read through the rooting guide, it explains in detail the steps to creating a backup and flashing a rom/theme.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. We are all here to help. Again, welcome to the forums!

Welcome to AF!!!

If you'd like to stay on the stock ROM but enjoy the unique flare themes have to offer, I would suggest changing your launcher. Download Home Switcher, then download ADW Launcher or Go Launcher (I prefer Go Launcher). From there you can explore all the different themes Go/ADW Launcher have available.

Thank you for the quick reply. I may just check out changing the launcher..thanks..but just incase how do i go about backing up my current rom incase i wanted to revert back. Does a nandroid backup do that?

If you want to stop using a specific launcher (except the sense rosie) all you have to do is go to the applications tab in settings, go under manage applications, find the launcher app, select the launcher app. scrool down and select "clear defaults" then hit home, it'll prompt you to choose the launcher, select sense rosie.
Then you can just uninstall the 3rd party launcher if you don't want it anymore. ;)

For what it's worth as far as launchers are concerned, I have used golauncher exclusively for quite awhile but I am absolutely loving the new updates to adw ex

"My biggest question of all thou what rom do i have?" ....... that was the question...where is the answer?..... he didnt ask about launchers ....
thanks,Raf

well when you root with revolutionary all it really does is root the stock rom. it does not change the rom. revoltuionary just turns the securities to off (s-off) and installs a custom recovery.

so you will have just a stock rooted rom. the software info is found in phone settings/about phone/software info. you can get the baseband(your radio) and kernel info, if you select more.
