Preparing to root, few more doubts to be cleared.....
My Phone specs are as below..

Android 2.2
Baseband version : 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version : 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0
htc-kernel@and18-2#1
Build number : 2.32.415.3 CL283905 release keys
Software number : 2.32.415.3
Browser version : Webkit 3.1

It's an Ara build.
So what I have understand from reading the Rooting guide/Faq/replies from SUroot/Rastaman (Big Thanks to them)
1. Make a Goldcard with a spare SD card and keep it safe somewhere...
2. Partition the SD card with GParted
3. Uninstall HTC Sync
4.HBoot to upgrade the Android software
5. Root with UNREVOKED 3.32
6. Take a Nandroid backup
7. Flash new ROM ......(As per Rastaman's advise the new ROM from Vodafone)
Hi Rastaman, can you please provide me the correct name of the RUU from Voda for my Android 2.2 Ara build?.
Thanks
Shyju

you can root ARA with unrevoked 3.2 without flashing the voda build
if you have problems then its recommended to flash the voda build
the only reason someone else was asking about it is because they wanted to get rid of the arabic language and didnt end up rooting.

Unrevoked 3.2 or 3.32, I thiink SUroot advised me to root with 3.32...
Also that was me only to ask your help to get rid of these Arabic stuff, (Prayer timings alarms & notifications, calender widget shows in arabic numerals)

As per my preparations anything wrong?....

Thanks
Shyju

3.32.

If you're flashing a custom rom, that will get rid of all the arabic / prayer times stuff anyway so no real need to go the voda route at all.

But the custom Rom should be higher version than the Ara...
Am I right?, Apart from Voda, anything else newer version available?,
Just to know, i don't mind flashing voda as far as you people recommends it...

Thanks
Shyju

no custom roms dont need to be higher, its only RUU/PB99img that need to be higher as it stores info about the device in misc which doesnt allow lower versions to be flashed.

Thanks Rastaman, SUroot

So when I root with UNReoked 3.32, the next is to flash RUU, can you please advise me which one is the latest to replace the Ara.....(Don't need Arabic at all)

Thanks
Shyju

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! You do not flash an RUU at all. An RUU returns it back to stock (unrooted). An RUU is an official ROM UPGRADE UTILITY.

I am confused now,

Android 2.2
Baseband version : 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version : 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0
htc-kernel@and18-2#1
Build number : 2.32.415.3 CL283905 release keys
Software number : 2.32.415.3
Browser version : Webkit 3.1

These are my phone specs,

Can i root with Unrevoked 3.32
Then flash a custom rom......

Thats it?

Thanks
Shyju

Yes the same as any other desire, except you have to use unrevoked 3.32 instead. Thats the only difference.

RUU's are only used if you want to send the phone back for a warranty repair or sell it.

Preparing to root,

Android 2.2
Baseband version : 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version : 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0
htc-kernel@and18-2#1
Build number : 2.32.415.3 CL283905 release keys
Software number : 2.32.415.3
Browser version : Webkit 3.1

Upgraded the software with Hboot, made the goldcard in a separate SD card.
Now tried to root, with UNREVOKED 3.32, finally got the error message, saying Failed to get root, Is your firmware too new?

Please help?....

Thanks
Shyju

Update.......

Just rooted, uninstalled Google sky maps, i think that was the reason....Thanks a lot you all smart guys, especially SUroot & Rastaman....

Now shall I do the nandroid, Titanium backup or Partition first?

Thanks
Shyju

Done Nandroid, Titanium back up and then partitioned using GParted.....
Do I need to format before partition?, just missed formatting....

Thanks
Shyju

Rooted & partitioned the SD card, Done Nandroid & Titanium backup...
Ready to Flash a Custom Rom, before I proceed would like to clear few doubts..

Now when i switch on the desire it shows the HTC logo for a longer time than before rooting, then comes the quietly brilliant display, is it like that? after rooting or any thing wrong?

My Desire comes with Ara build software, which custom rom is suitable for me? Something fast & near to Sense
Also I am using my official mail & gmail on the Desire.....Can i restore the settings from Titanium backup for these two mail applications?

Also the Al Moazin arabic prayer timings will go for ever ( my first reason to root) when I flash a custom rom

Thanks
Shyju

Does the phone still boot ok? After the first nandroid, sometimes it bootloops and you have to restore the backup to get it to boot.

ARA is irrelevant now unless you need to return to stock. You can use any GSM custom rom. All system apps in the rom are replaced when flashing a custom rom.
