Next Phone?

Girevik

Android Enthusiast
I've had my SG3 for a year and a half now. I've have LOVED this phone, but today all of a sudden it's started acting really wonky, having shutdown on my around a dozen times today.

I'm not quite ready to give up on it yet, but I'm starting to think...what if I need a new phone? What is out there that the SG3 fans like? the 4 is an option, but I also like HTC phones and would be willing to consider others.

A show stopper for me is that it has to have an SD card slot....I like to keep my music on my phone. So...what is out there worth looking at?

I think youre limited to samsung or sony if you need an SD slot. Looks like the next HTC flagship is gona have one though so wait for that if you can afford it.
Have you tried resetting the s3?

Haven't done the reset yet, and deffinately will before I chuck it. I'm just afraid I may have to go phone shopping on short notice and want to be prepared if I do. I tend to be an over-analizer.

Looking at New htc and New Sony when my deal is up in July. Unless hands on reviews for s5 are amazing I will likely be leaving Samsung.

Me for a Sony Z2 I think, next time. The LG G2 looks ok.
My wife has a Lumia 820, that is easy to use too. The 2 must haves for me is SD card and removable battery---not much left, lol.
Why are more phone makers going non removable battery for????

gregg my guess would be its more money for them when you have to buy a new phone because of battery issues than being able to buy battery for yourself. also gets rid off 3rd party from getting money that these companies deem theirs

Yeah, I guess a replaceable battery would be on my list too. Didn't realize Android makers were getting away from that.

My problem is that I like to research before I but, and if I need to buy in a hurry I want to have a couple candidates in mind.

I'm on at&t, if that matters.

Yeah, suppose thats right- a la apple. Nokia Lumia going that way as well now.
A spare battery kept me going when up in Scottish west coast last year- phone must have been going frantic trying to find a signal/wifi lol.

If you've had it 18 months, carrier unlock, and sell it on ebay for as much as you can buy an s4 for on ebay, and upgrade.

I'm not fond of non replaceable batteries, or lack of an expansion card slot, but there's no perfect smartphone.

For my use and preferences, I'm finding my Nexus 5 ideal. It works great on either AT&T or T-Mobile.

Recently I added a Limefuel Battery Case. If you've seen a Mophie Juice Pack on an iPhone, this one is almost exactly the same. High quality, a perfect fit, it's a great way to enjoy two day battery life easily.

After lots of smartphones, this is my favorite by far.

All depends on the user really, I've never needed to replace my battery since owning smartphones (I've an external charging pack if running low and away from a wall socket) and all my music etc is in the cloud (unlimited data helps there)

So the Nexus 5 is more than adequate for my needs, best phone I've ever had in fact. Still use my S3 often though, it's perfect as a second phone (and great as a primary)

HTC annoyed me back when they said for months the Desire HD was getting updated to Gingerbread and then rescinded at the last moment and I've grown tired of Samsung.

I'm going to wait to see if there will be a release of the rumored S5 "Prime" with a bigger screen, bigger battery, more RAM, and faster processor.

This mythical creature may not even exist, so to get what I'm looking for today, maybe the Note 3 is the right device. Thankfully my S3 is still going strong and is still quite capable, so I've got time to sit back a little while and be patient while time passes and more new phones are developed and released.

I'd suggest a Nexus or Google Play edition, which is what I'm going to replace this with eventually. I'm sick of the bloatware and Knox and like the idea of not having to wait for updates. Not to mention the updates to a pure Google phone likely won't make my phone perform worse like 4.3 has for me with this one.
