Root NexTheme ESE81 R3 Release (4/21/10) - New Goodies!

OK, all apps updated, TiBu has been made, off to try this ROM.

Wish me luck!

Good Luck! I think you'll like it. It's been stable, glitch free, and smooth, since I put it on. Sad to say...I think I've been running this for 4 or 5 days now...and that makes it the second longest, constantly running ROM I have had on my phone! It's been nice not to see a Recovery screen for a few days lol! :D

Okay...I have just got your ROM installed and setup just the way that I want it and I have to say that this by far better than I could ever even imagined. I have found myself tinkering with my Droid all over again as if it were brand new. Awesome job Fab!

lol - waiting to see if market apps are gonna install automagically or not - but it is getting warm quickly....

EDIT: Yup, apps being installed. I'll wait for that to finish and then restore data only from TiBu and go from there....

after adb shell. when i issue the format commands, it says format not found. i am typing them as you have shown. any suggestions? also, obviously wiping would negate the need to uninstall goggles, maps, etc. right?

# format DATA:

Which recovery are you using? SPRecovery or Clockwork?

In clockwork, you can just use the 'partition' menu to format.

In SPRecovery, you should be able to just use format DATA:, CACHE:, etc.

If you are doing adb while not in recovery, well, that's a problem :p

I accidentally set the default home as the "always use" option and now I can't seen to find anyway to reset that. I want to use HelixLauncher. It's probably something simple but I can't find it.

OK, have it installed, now to start playing.

Fab - I noticed that the old Alarm clock app + the new Clock app are both in the ROM - I suppose I should visit Pete's thread to find the scripts to start removing stuff?

Also, gonna try to apply a Blue theme that was made for UD 9.8 and see how it goes - I think all will be well....lol.

Yeah, he's only got so many scripts though. You can remove other apps manually to using adb or terminal emulator, so something like this:

Code:
su
enablescripts
rmblahblahblah //pete's scripts for the apps you want to remove

mountsys
cd /system/app/
rm Example.apk //for apps that there aren't scripts for

Kewl, nice to know the manual method. I'll probably just use Root Explorer though :P

Thanks for the quick response, that worked. I was looking in the settings somewhere but obviously couldn't find it.

For the manual way, Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications --> menu key --> Filter --> All - then find process Home and press the button Clear Defaults

i would like to put the nexus neural LWP on there. how do i enable scripts?

Using the app 'Android Terminal Emulator'

Code:
su
enablescripts
switchlwp

Note, you need the Livewallpaper.apk on your sdcard before you run the switchlwp script. Also, you'll need to rename it. The exact directions are in the first post.

I did not have the success as others in the forum. I had FCs and the ROM was slow at times, transitions were also slow, and I think my battery drained a little faster. I like the look, feel, and goodies but I had to revert back to BB 0.9 for usability. This could have been my fault based upon the way I loaded it, which is:

1.) Started with BB 0.9
2.) Backed up apps with data using Titanium backup and MyBackup (root)
3.) booted to SPRecovery
4.) made an Advanced backup of BB 0.9 (everything)
5.) wiped the data and cache partitions three times
6.) Then updated to Nextheme using update.zip on SDcard
7.) Booted into new ROM
8.) Restored backups with app data not system data
9.) Synced to my gmail accounts and facebook.

That is about it. I did not wipe /system because I could not find a link to explain how to use it.

If you have any thoughts, please advise.

It should install over the last release fine. Only thing I can think of is Maps might act up (since it's no longer a system app). If that's the case, there are a few terminal commands you can just run to fix the problem, and redownload it from the marketplace.

I installed this over Fab's 1st release, everything worked fine Except Google Goggles (there was a remnant of that left behind)

I have had no issues so far..

Install went flawless here. Coming from Adamz smoked glass v6, did a data and cache wipe one time. Had to install all my apps but expected. Thanks Fab! Running very smooth right now...

Coming from forcing the official 2.1 OTA update on my phone (what a mistake!!) - prior to that, I was rooted and OC'ed on 2.0.1 (950Mhz) without any custom ROMS. The drop off in speed was so very noticeable on 2.1, especially with LWP turned on. Fab, yours is the first custom ROM I've EVER used. I've only been interested in having this thing be speedy and was never really keen on themes/skins/etc. But after seeing the screenshots you had up, I figured why the heck not?

The good news is that I was able to avoid the PAINFUL method of flashing back to 2.0.1, rooting, installing SPRecovery and then loading your ROM. The folks over at DroidMod were kind enough to post a 2.1 SPRecovery SBF file for those unfortunate souls (like me!) who sadly were on the stock 2.1 (ESE81) update. After a little adb action, I was rooted on 2.1 and then flashed your ROM. So far, so good.. have only been using it for 15 minutes or so, but man it feels so good to have that speed back!

Will keep updating on usage and anything I encounter, but so far, I'm very impressed. Bravo on such a clean, crisp and speedy ROM! And also for making this process as painless as possible too!

Fab, I have a feeling I know what the answer to this is, but...

I made a TiBu of the current ROM, then wiped everything I could and installed your ROM. All apps came back as expected, but when I try to restore TiBu not matter how I try, I get restore failures.

I suspect that it is either the former ROM causing problems in my TiBu, or else a corrupted TiBu backup - but I am leaning toward the ROM as people who made TiBus of that particular ROM had trouble when trying to restore to a newer version of that same ROM....

I am gonna try to install it manually again, and this time just set up everything by hand, and then make a brand new backup, and see if it help.

Also, I am still gonna try that blue theme I mentioned earlier - if it works I'll post screenies.

Yeah, there's some funk going on with TiBu lately. It's a shame, but I don't think it's the ROM's fault, and it is probably very difficult for the developer to code it so that you can translate the data backups (either system or app) between different ROMs.

Though I think just an app restore would work just fine (but probably just as easy to let the market redownload them automatically)

I was having some problems with TiBu last night, what I did was delete all of my app backups, then hit the fix problems button in TiBu, then back up all the apps again... that worked... The problem I was having is that all of my backups would give me errors when I went to check the backups in TiBu. After I did the above I was not getting any errors when I checked the backups...

I am so impressed, Fab. I had rooted with DroidMod and liked the overclocking, 5-screen, home landscape rotation, etc. As I felt more comfortable, and with DroidMod not doing anything on the ESE81 kernal, I started looking at other ROMs. I installed ROM Manager before I saw your NexTheme-ESE81-R2. Fortunately, I read Clockwork Recovery could be used to install and I didn't have to flash back to SPRecovery.

Donated to Titanium Backup, did a full backup, and booted into CR recovery. I did the full format of Data, Cache, System, and Boot in the Partitions menu (and did it again, probably not necessary.) Installed your ROM and restarted. I just re-installed Titanium Backup from the Market and restored apps and data. What a piece o' cake. Anyone thinking about doing this should stop thinking and start doing. Stable, fast, great battery life, custom look & feel. I feel like an 'enthusiast' again.

Thanks Fab

This ROM is very snappy and runs super cool. It would be perfect if we could get a transparent lockscreen like this one? What do you guys think?
