Root NexTheme ESE81 R3 Release (4/21/10) - New Goodies!

If you have photo editing skills, you can extract whatever you're trying to change (Launcher, framework-res, etc) from /system/ and modify the PNG files within them to what you like. Then just push them back and overwrite the old files. Me, I'm not so talented at that.

You can easily get that icon by extracting Talk.apk from any non-themed ROM (i.e. BB). Then you can pull Talk from this ROM, swap the icons, and repush it back. Note that the Talk notification is part of framework-res though, so if you want to change that, you'll have to pull the framework also.

Is there any guide showing how to go about doing this? (i.e. pulling out files and then pushing back in edited ones)

Thanks fab. Your previous versions I had jit enabled. I did experience issues with reboots but I really didn't think it was your rom or jit. I tried everything to resolve the reboots besides disabling jit because i was in denial. Haha. This last time i reloaded your rom, i didnt enable jit and i did a clean install. I havent had one reboot at all even when i was running a bunch of apps but I had jit withdrawls and i had an itch to re-enable haha.
I guess ill follow ur advice and leave it as is. I really really like this themed rom. I cant wait for ur version of BB V1. Assuming ur making one, but i know u are.:p

I'll keep this in mind. I haven't had much luck with Cyanogen ROMS but I'll see how my JITless ROM runs for a little bit.

That is the best part about it... the scripts and goodies will work with any ROM... so if you are liking Fabs awesome ROM but want to try and see how JIT works with it you can follow the instructions in that post to install just the scripts and goodies, once you do that all you have to do is go into terminal emulater and run the script for JIT, if it doesn't work out for you and you are getting soft boots then you just have to run the script to disable JIT.

No need to install a CM Rom... :)

Oh and the script is really easy to you just type in SU then enablejit... to disable it is just as simple SU then disablejit... :)

Ding Ding! I gotcha. Thanks again.

The 3D one? I'm not sure ESE81 supports it. I do have the regular 2D launcher with 5 columns though, which I used for NexBeast (ESE53 based). I haven't tried it with ESE81, so I'm not sure if it's compatible.

Yes, I'm referring to the 3D one. However, a 2D 5 column launcher would be even better.

Did you do a clean install, or over an existing ROM?

If not, I would recommend a clean install with a wipe of DATA, CACHE, SYSTEM, and BOOT partitions.

yeah i did a full wipe, data, cache, system and boot as i was coming from smoked glass v6 which i think is based off of ese53. dunno what the issue was, i booted back into recovery and reinstalled and i havent seen it since.

i do have to say that even with the random force close i was getting this theme is by far the fastest and cleanest theme i have seen on my phone and i wouldnt have changed it, the fact that its running flawlessly after re-installing just makes it that tiny .01% better lmao, thanks for all your work! :D

loving this! Thanks so much for including an option with LV Kernal Already. Zero issues so far with a clean install using SPrecov on 2.1

the best is, this is first custom ROM that didnt require 5 battery pulls per day due to screen not waking. 2 days and not one single pull.

Fab

Just loaded up your latest release and must say it is super smooth...

I had only been using CM Roms since rooting several months ago, but thought I'd try something else for a change. I was getting tired of the hope page "redrawing" every time I closed out of an app of any size. Haven't had that so far with yours. I'm wondering if it is just a result of me wiping data, cache, and partition and if I might have had the same result loading another CM ROM.

Either way, great job on the ROM! Love the theme and silky smoothness!

I've been trying to load up additional live wallpapers, like were available in CM. Loaded up the Nexus download you provided, but wondered if more were available....

I just switched from NEXtheme to cyanogen to try something different and you're right cyanogen lags pretty bad when hitting the home key compared to NEXtheme.
I'm switching back to this theme today!

I just came accross this thread today.. just an fyi.. if you add this to your updater-script I don't think you will have to run the "enablescripts" script

set_perm_recursive(0, 2000, 0755, 0755, "/system/xbin");
set_perm(0, 0, 06755, "/system/xbin/su");

well after I posted my comments about the home screen "redrawing", I did a search (what a novel concept) and learned about the "Home App in Memory" option located in "Spare Parts"....I'm betting I did not have this option unchecked (or checked?) while running CM....:o

For those of you who want the stock neural network back:

The OP has been updated:

How do I access said terminal to add that script...I'm a little new to this

Thanks Jrummy. I knew there was a way to do this, but I have been a bit busy/lazy to find out the exact command.

You'll need to download the 'Android Terminal Emulator' app from the market. It's by Jack Pavlovic (sp?)

Fab, what would cause me to lose all my cool icons? For example, my Market icon went back to the drab green one... I appreciate all your efforts in this theme...

There was a silent update to the market, which is not installed on the /data/ partition. That caused it to lose the theme. I posted the fix a bit earlier in the thread, here's the link if you want to do the fix.

This will be addressed in the next release, as well as the updated Facebook (maybe, seems to be having some issues though, according to reviews in the market).

Fab,

Not sure if I'm the only one experIencing this, but gps isn't working for me at all since R3... Can't get a lock at all no matter what I do or where I go.

Any ideas?

I'm not having this issue. If anything I get a fix quicker.

Fab:
Thanks! You are the man!

Fab, will this mystery update people are getting mess with this?? or anything we have to do?

This version has otacerts.zip in it, so you will receive a notification that your phone is ready for an update. If you do so, you can just accept it. Your recovery will block it from being installed, and then you will never be bothered again.

also is the NexBeast the "R4 of Nextheme" or are they differant?

Somewhat different. They have very similar features, but NexBeast is based on Pete's Bugless Beast V1.0, while these NexTheme ESE81 ROMs were based just on the stock ESE81 image (well, kind of stock :D)
