Nexus 10 or iPad 3 (Help me decide)

B2L

Android Expert
So I'm in the market for a tablet and I was going to buy a refurbished iPad 3. I'm not all that interested in the OS, but variety of apps entices me. I'm a huge Android fan and have been around for a long time, but I'm ready for something a little different. With the announcement of the Nexus 10, I really can't choose.

Help me decide, what should I choose and why? Hopefully I'll get some objective answers, it's an extremely tough choice for me.

well being that this is an android forum, you most likely get a lot of responses like mine.

i have never owned an apple device, so i can't speak for the new ipad (apple calls it the new ipad rather then ipad 3). the nexus 10 looks promising. plus with the holiday season coming, i would expect more tablets to be annonced and released so you might want to at least wait and see what is on the horizon.

Thanks for the feedback. I only asked here because after quite a while on the staff, I've come to trust and love the people around here. Thanks for moving the thread.

The Nexus 10 uses a more advanced screen technology called PLS (Plane-To-Line Switching) technology which Samsung claims has these advantages over IPS:

  • Further improvement in viewing angle
  • 10 percent increase in brightness
  • Up to 15 percent decrease in production costs
  • Increased image quality

Also the Nexus 10 has much higher resolution and ppi (300ppi) versus the iPad 3's 264ppi.

Also the Nexus 10 has other hardware features like the new Exynos 5250 (Cortex-A15) which destroys the iPad 3's processor A5 processor.

Nexus 10 has 2GB RAM, the iPad 3 only has 1GB.

Nexus 10 has NFC, iPad 3 doesn't.

Nexus 10 has better cameras.

I know which one I'd buy.

There's no doubt the specs of the Nexus 10 are far better. That's one of the main reasons I'm considering it, the 5250 will be a beast; plus the T604 will be able to handle graphic intensive games.

I'm mainly getting a tablet for gaming purposes and that's why it's such a tough choice. I'm only considering the iPad for new games which aren't available for Android. (Infinity Blade 2, and Adult Swim games.)

Here's the way I see it.

iPad - More tablet apps, better selection of games, and a change. ($379 refurbished)
Nexus 10 - Better OS that can be customized and much better specs. ($399 new)

It's so tough, I'm a specs junkie but the games and apps available on iOS are making it a tough decision.
