Nexus 5 Lag

Nexuslv

Newbie
So pretty often when I exit from an app draw to homescreen(dekstop) there is about a 0.5 to 1.0 second lag. This happens almost every time. I have noticed frame rate drops. I'm using dalvik, because when i use art my phone starts to lag very hard. Should i send my phone back?

Instaled apps - Skype, File manager, Asphalt 8

I'd try a factory reset. If it still lags, yes, send it back. If it doesn't, then slowly restore apps and settings that you had and see if you can find the culprit.

It is certainly not natural for the N5 to lag... on anything. ;)

when it lags tap the recent app button to see how many programs you have loaded in that list. as you are a heavy gamer if you have say 10 apps running there it could lag.

I deleted all the applications that are not built into nexus. I always clear recent apps. Still lag. 2 hours ago i tryied factory reset. Now phone works normal, but still there are few lags (when going to homescreen). I think i'm gonna send my phone back.

I should have taken the LG G2. Damn it!

That's weird. I have owned the Nexus 5 since day one and I will be completely honest, the phone hasn't lagged at all. Still very snappy and fast.

I don't know what's the problem.
I have noticed that a lot of people are talking about that homescreen lag on nexus 5.

Its the first I've seen of it here.

If you know your way around fastboot it might be worth re-flashing the factory image. If that doesn't fix it you know its not caused by software- IE its a hardware problem.

I tried a friend's Nexus 5 the other day and it was very fast and fluid. He has a many applications installed and he is using stock android? Are you using any custom roms? The Nexus 5 has very powerful hardware it should not be lagging at all.

if you exit from a graphic intensive app like a game, maybe you are thermally throttled?

What do you mean saying that im thermally throttled? The first time when i was using nexus 5 It was fast and smooth. Next day i installed Plants vs zombies 2(first game). My phone started to get hot (because of pvz2 and dead trigger 2) After few days of gaming lags started to appier. And know my phone lags when im going to homescreen.

Sounds like to me its an apk that doesn't play nice. Not all apk's are written properly.

Other then a factory reset to see if there is a difference, you can look at the list of running apks and one by one disable them to see if it clears up.

Thermal throttle just means that when the phone gets hot, the maximum performance of the CPU is lowered to prevent overheating.

Have you tried seeing if it persists in safe mode?

Have you tried using a different launcher like nova?

Already did this! Still lags!
P.S - I'm using stock rom(android)

When i use launcher's there are no lags, but i hate using launchers.

Well, actually, you are always using a launcher. Stock uses the GEL Launcher. So you are getting LAG with GEL but not with other launchers? That's odd and doesn't sound like a hardware problem.

Yes, but launchers from google play takes space and ram. Yeah it's quite interesting!

I found few people's posts who have the same problem as i have.

So i got a nexus 5 last month the fisrt two days were okay but the third day i noticed that my phone started to lag and to drop frames when exiting the app drawer and on google chrome and while using the youtube app i tried reseting factory data and switching to art but it didnt work my friend s nexus 5 is smoother than mine I also updated Google search so I have the new launcher it s frustrating I don't know is it a factory issue did I get a bad phone ? When I played injustice the game runs well but sometimes it drops some frames but it s okay and looks not bad while playing but while choosing the battle and searching for cards it feels laggy searching for battles used to look better on my nexus 4 and also if i pull down the notification Bar while playing the game the notification becomes so lagy plz help me

Hi...i brought my nexus 5 few days back....suddenly my nexus 5 become laggy....i means lags in animation...dropping frame rates
...and drop frame rate in games like temple run 2 and subway surfur....bt dead trigger fine....i have hard reset my divice twicw...bt still remains tha same drop frame rates in animation......i dont know now what to do...am really upset about it....because its my first expensive phone..:(
Andbody plz help...suggest what to do..

There are few more!

You seem overly concerned with apps taking up space and ram, you really don't need to be worrying about either unless there is something seriously wrong with the phone.

Have you altered the animation settings in developer options? Just throwing that one out there, it certainly won't hurt to try if not.

Next week I will return my phone back to the shop. I know that animation can be turned off, but i will not turn them off. I want to enjoy a proper nexus 5 phone rather than one with different launchers and without animation. This is not the real nexus 5.

P.S - There are a few more problems other than lags

Posting the other problems could have help us

Wasn't saying to switch the animations settings off, I reduced mine to 0.5 and they're still present but IMO my phone responds faster. I don't use launchers either, I bought the Nexus because I wanted stock. (Although I have rooted it and altered a few things to my liking)

Lag vs slower/faster animations should be possible to differentiate. I don't think a correctly working N5 with factory settings can be described as laggy.

Anyway, I think there's more to this since the OP has mentioned more issues.
