Nexus 5 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

Yea it seems weird that they would just announce it out of nowhere instead of having an event. Even a small event with some press would make sense.

They did the same for the Nexus 4. Even though they had reason to postpone it, they then instead announced it the same day still but through the press and not a traditional event on stage.

You'd think they would have learned something from the (horrible, horrible) N4 launch, though...

I think the reason they're not doing a big release event is that an android version is not the big deal that it used to be. Most updates to Android are done silently through Google Play Services due to the stubbornness of OEMs and Carriers. Most people won't give a hoot about 4.4 because no current devices will likely receive it within the next 6 months. Those that do won't notice much if any change because of manufacturer skinning. I'll bet most of them keep their stock texting apps.

I think they aren't doing a big release because of the riot we'd all cause due to the fact they're taking for-everrrr.

The more and more I think about it, the more I believe that July's event wasn't for 4.3 or the Nexus 7. I think it was because they brought a new product to the market(chromecast) in order to get some attention.

I really don't understand why they wouldn't just jump to 5.0 instead they decide to go with 4.4? If there gonna make big changes it should be 5.0 really.

Exactly why they need to go mainstream. Samsung will soon have their own OS. HTC is dying slowly. No disrespect to them. One brand. All carriers. One system. I do love what other OEMs have done for Android though. I just wish there was a better way of handling things, because Android as a whole is not pretty when you really think about it. Pulled in so many directions.

To top all this news off there is a double header tonight CHICAGO vs KNICKS and then WARRIORS vs CLIPPERS. My night won't be over until almost 1am.

Well, it's 1 eastern. no nexus. maybe i'll just head on over to the AT&T store and get something else. this is really wearing on me. LOL

I'm just impatient, LOL my phone barely works and i was waiting for this. it's been on the fritz for weeks now. maybe a month? sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. it's temperamental. i hear phones are like their owners.... LOL

It seems so obvious in hindsight. As soon as we knew the change from Key Lime Pie to Kit Kat, it should have immediately registered that it would be released on Halloween! Candy.. kitkat..
so simple! The irony... it burns.

And to think this is my third Nexus launch

But yeah, it can be quite annoying when they keep toying with us.

I imagine it will be announced within a week, 2 at the latest. I would hate to end up on a phone other than what I wanted just because of a 2 week wait.
