Help Nexus 5X Uninstalled Android By Itself!!

I'm sure you probably waited a significant amount of time but first boot on lollipop after a restore can take up to 10 minutes. Have you let it go for at least that long?

It's a bummer that it won't work after all of that but there's not much you can do about a hardware issue. Glad to see that it "worked" though. It's nice to know there are other recovery options outside of fastboot. The LG tool will prove to be a useful tool in the future for anyone with an unlockable bootloader!

I thought you didn't do OEM Unlock in the 5x (or 6p) anymore. You do the fastboot flashing unlock command. OEM Unlock give you complete access to the phone, installing bootloaders, ect. Flashing Unlock just lets you flash things like TWRP and a custom rom... you guys should've known and tried this...

@LitrosNub I used LGUP for Store (notice "for Store" it means it doesn't require a unlocked bootloader to flash stuff) look in one of the previous posts in this thread to see the link.

UPDATE FOR ANYONE THAT CARES:

My phone is at the LG Repair Place in Fort worth Texas so hopefully they can fix it. Tech Support said they will call or email me sometime during the process (I am assuming for the bill). I am only checking my email because so many god dam scam calls, marketing calls, all that crap are called on that line so its not likely I will here them call!

-Anyway I will post again when the phone gets back (hopefully) fixed!

He didn't have the proper options checked in developer settings and no OS to boot into to change those settings. Using the LG tool was a safe way to return to stock.

Second, we can't know everything about every device. We're just mere mortals who help out where we can in our spare time because we want to. And you're right, the command has changed, at least for the 6p, but from what I understand (from what ive seen) is that it is the equivalent of fastboot oem unlock; it's just they changed the command text. But you would still need to allow oem unlocking in the developer options before it's possible would you not?

Well that's nice!

Well the thing is, it was all over the Android News scene, also you don't need to enable OEM Unlocking because it really isn't the same, Flashing unlock only lets you change stuff like recovery and ROM. OEM Unlocking lets you go all out and flash a new bootloader, ect. Anything that might hard brick the device.

But if you didn't know, I'm sorry :)

No, I didn't know. Thank you for the info; I'll look into it some more. I don't have time to follow every device in depth so I mostly just know the ins and outs of the devices I own. I had seen something about it awhile back and the article I read said that the command changed not that it was a separate command. That was after the device first realeased.

Now if you're gonna get on me for not knowing something, since you knew this, where were you when we needed that information??
:p

Okay, break this down for me to help clarify and simplify, please (yeah, I'm slow this morning, but I think everyone would benefit from some elaboration):

1. What (if anything) must be enabled to do a "fastboot oem unlock" on a 5X or 6P?

2. Doing a "fastboot oem unlock" opens the "world" to allow fastboot to flash the recovery or boot partition (etc.), correct?

3. What the heck does the "OEM Unlocking" setting (do I have the wording right?) in the Settings apps actually do/allow?

This new settings option really muddies the waters for me and my experience with prior devices that didn't have this...

Thanks!

:)

Okay, so we (and Eli) were trying to use "fastboot oem unlock" instead of (the new) "fastboot unlock" command?

and the "FAILED (remote: oem unlock is not allowed)" message was simply because we were using the wrong fastboot "unlock" command (the wrong one being fastboot oem unlock)?

Yes, but does it still require you to allow unlocking in developer options? If so, it's kind of a moot point as we wouldn't have been able to unlock anyway.

Also, we were only trying to unlock to flash the factory images, which was done successfully with the LG tool, so ultimately we accomplished the same goal a different way around. So at least nothing was really lost there. Plus we got to learn some new things. :D

^^^ :) Thanks!

Okay, so (anyone :p) correct me if I'm wrong (and @LitrosNub's post is finally starting to make sense to me now):

1. Nexii < 5X / 6P: use fastboot oem unlock

2. Nexii >= 5X / 6P: use fastboot unlock

3. Nexii >= 5X / 6P: fastboot unlock allows you to flash recovery but not boot partition

4. Nexii >= 5X / 6P: Settings -> Developer options -> Enable OEM unlock give you access to flash boot partition, probably softboot (i.e., fastboot boot), etc.

Sound right?

:)

edit/note: I do NOT have a 5X or 6P device (yet ;)), so these nuances were not known to me--didn't know or think the fastboot behavior would have changed from prior devices...whodathunk? ;) :p

UPDATE FOR ANYONE THAT CARES:

LG has delivered the Nexus 5X to FedEx (a shipping service). I am tracking the package through there website! I am slightly worried because LG Tech Support said if they couldn't fix it they said they would just send it back, BUT my dad (he has a masters degree in computer software and engineering) said that replacing the system board would most likely fix it so I think it might be fixed! Anyway I will try to make daily updates so you guys (and girls if any) can be updated.

UPDATE FOR ANYONE THAT CARES:
I just got a email from LG this morning deeming my Nexus 5X not fixable. So I will get the phone in its broken state via FedEx as I said in the last "UPDATE FOR ANYONE THAT CARES". I will no longer be posting to the thread unless some miracle happens or something. Thanks for the help anyone. Bye.

That really sucks. It seems odd that it's "unfixable". Even if it's a hardware issue, it seems like LG should have the means to repair it. Sorry to hear this.

1. Warranty doesn't cover liquid anyway I would have to pay money 2. BUT my parents got me a new Nexus 5X for hanukkah/early xmas! I have da best parents ever, (they got me the last one too). It's arriving today!

IT'S HERE AND WORKS WOW, so since I have a working Nexus 5X I will no longer be posting to this forum, but I will leave it online for other Nexus 5X owners to look at!
