Android Lilipop has a lot of new features and hidden things, so instead of having lots of small threads on initial setup, they will be combined in this thread as to help the community to have a one stop shop for setup help.

So when my N5 got 5.0, my youtube google pic displayed up at the top right before the phone woke up. When I factory reset it, I got the generic blue icon. Now with my N6 I have the same blue icon. What gives? Anyone know how to tweak this?

I set mine. Tap the circle. You will see three cirlces. One will be for you, one will be "Add Guest" and one will say "Add User".

Tap "more settings" under the circles. It will open "Users". Tap your circle. It will open "Profile Info". Touch your photo circle and it will open "Take Photo" or "Choose from Gallery". Here you can also give more user info.

Hope that helps!

It won't let me change my little blue icon. I am logged into Google +. And there are no options other than changing my name or changing guest settings under more settings

Click on the box like thing to the left of where you input your name. It should then bring up a menu box for pictures to either pick one or take one. Hope that helps!?

Can the default number of screens be increased on the Nexus 6?

I like to have a dedicated agenda screen and two screens doesn't cut it for me. I'm using folders to cut down on the number of screens needed, but this junks up my home screen.

Thanks

On the Nexus 6 is there a way to stop the notification bubbles? It's so annoying.

So now my temp won't show up in my notification bar. Same app I've used forever but on my N6 the temp doesn't display?

in order to get help, some additional data is needed.

what app are you using for weather? Personally I use Accuweather and I have no issues with the temp being displayed. it also displays other notifications (alerts, etc).

what "notification" bubbles are you speaking of? I don't have "notification bubbles" popping up on the nex 6.

stock, not rooted. purchased from goog. launch day. latest updates.

if you are rooted, you may have other issues.

I'm using BeWeather.

I get white pop ups for calls ,SMS,twitter,Facebook.

I'm not rooted just got the phone today.

There must be some master setting that makes the pop ups show up, but I have no idea where it is.

many people get the phone and root it within minutes ;-) so the question was to make sure we are on the same page.

as for the app,

forceclose, clear cache, force stop, finally un-install and reinstall. do those steps in order--if one step does not help, move on to the next. again, I am having no issue with temp on the top bar there with the program I am using.

email the Dev and make sure the app is compatible with android L.

do you mean the ambient display? as in when the phone is off you see the screen light up with alerts?

go into settings and adjust to taste. there are priority settings for apps that will show up on the ambient display mode. this is all I can think of when you say "notification bubbles". I have not done any radical tweaking to the nex 6 and I have not seen any such bubbles, other than the pop ups on the ambient display mode when the screen is off.

No I'm not talking about ambient display.
There's literally a white box that comes up at the very top of the screen. It happens for texts, phone calls, twitter, Facebook. It is not app specific.

Here's a screen shot.

aiight my fault. I don't have those activated. apologies.

in app notifications, there are priority settings and "block" settings. these should disable those notifications. I forgot all about those...

I never activated anything either.
And doing what you suggested does nothing but totality disable notifications which is not what I want to do.
I want to get rid of the white pop up notification window that pops up with every notification irregardless of which so it is.
I absolutely hate that dumb box.

That's the way the Google Now launcher handles notifications. I haven't found a way to turn them off other than using a different launcher. Apex and Nova are working well with 5. I know with Apex you can still use the Google Now features by swiping up from the soft home button, but not have to deal with some of the over-notification shenanigans.

Ok this phone is making me feel stupid lol
No stranger at all to android but lollipop is really putting me through the paces.
Volume question. My phone will not go silent while on, I can't get it to go lower than vibrate. Been into settings and can't get it silent?
Help?

What does this mean when i try to add a phone number?Your contact won't be backup Add an account that back up contacts online

Keep Local or add Account? What this mean it backup numbers to online?

You probably haven't registered a Google account to the phone. Without a gmail account your contacts will be saved only on your device, unless you manually back them up. If anything should ever happen to your phone, your contacts will be lost.

What the local thing mean?

Local = your phone. If you choose local, it will store the contact ONLY on your phone, if you choose add account, you can either add an existing gmail account or create a new one. Then it will save your contacts to both your phone AND the gmail account. If you do add the account and something ever happens to your phone, or you simply get a new phone. As soon as you add the gmail account to it, all your contacts will synchronize and you'll have them all back on the new phone.

i was wondering if anyone knows how to activate/enable/find the "Tap & Go" restore feature in Lollipop?

i received the n6 the other day and i rushed through the setup process that i completely skipped through this important step in the setup wizard.

is it possible to enable this feature without having to due a factory reset?

here is what i found from moto's support forums.

"When you're prompted to use Tap & Go during the setup wizard, follow these steps to complete the process:"

1. Turn on and unlock your current device.

2. Make sure NFC is turned on for your current device.

3. Briefly place your current device and your new device back to back until your hear a sound confirming the touch.

4.When the screen on your current device says, "Copy accounts and data from this device?," touch OK. Keep in mind that Bluetooth will be used to complete this process.

5.The screen on your current device will lock. Use your pin, pattern, or password to unlock it.

6.When you get a notification on your current device that says, "New device setup completed," touch the notification.

Note: If you have 2-Step Verification set up for you Google Account or don’t have a screen lock set up on your new device, you'll be asked to enter your account password.

7.When you're done, all your Google account data and associated apps will be available on your new device."

thanks in advance for all the help and comments!

When looking at the specs if the nexus 6 I noticed no support for DLNA. Which I assume is support for directly sending photos or videos to supported devices such as a TV.

I've always been able to do this on my other phones, but it would appear you cannot with the nexus 6? There is no option from within the weak gallery app.

A cast option is on the device, but will you not need a chrome or Mira dongle for that?
