Help Nexus 6 User Setup Help (How do I do this? How to setup that?)

Only $35 for a free option I have had on my last 2 phones? Mmm..

I'll have a play tonight and see what I can come up with, maybe a setting somewhere or twonky/toaster cast may serve me well.
 
I believe the issue is, that there is no media app on the nexus 6 that supports sending to other devices. Probably because google want you to buy a chrome cast, which is pointless for people with smart TV's.

Last night I searched and played with several UPnP apps, my default for MP3 s was Toaster. But this does not send MP4s.

After several apps I've gone for and brought BubbleUPnP. It appears to do everything I want it to do. Still a shame the nexus 6 did not come with a proper gallery app that supports such things.
 
Is there a way to set my N6 so that I don't receive audible notifications from midnight to 6:00 a.m. With my Maxx I could do that and with the Note 4 I could do that but I can't find a way to do that with my N6. I realize that when I turn down the volume I can set it to block for 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours and indefinitely but I don't see how to schedule it to happen nightly.

Go to Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Interruptions

You can set up the schedule there.
 
I love my Nexus 6 but have had one nagging issue that I have been unable to resolve. I have 4 contacts set as priority contacts, but when I put my phone in "priority" mode, the text notifications are silent. I can hear/receive phone calls from the priority contacts but not texts. No sound, no vibration, absolutely nothing. The only way I know if a priority contact has texted me is the visual notification in the top bar.

I have done factory reset and tried various messaging apps, but all have the same problem. I have cleared cache. I have reset contacts as non priority and then priority again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as my kids normally text instead of call, and I would like to get audible notifications of their texts. And yes, I have checked my volume settings, LOL!

I upgraded from a Droid Bionic on Verizon to a Nexus 6 on Sprint last Friday. Right off the bat, I noticed an annoying blue "Guest User" icon/dot at the right end of the notification bar (upper-right corner of the screen). Unless my phone is stolen, there will be only one user ... me. Does anyone know how to get rid of that blue dot?
 
Long click on any icon or widget and drag it to the right off the screen. Walla, a new screen appears. Then do it again. You can have as many screens as you want.

Is there a way to add a contact on the Nexus 6 without adding it to Gmail,Google or Microsoft Outlook? Can it be added just to the smartphone without it being needed to be synced to anything?
 
AFAIK not using the stock Google Contacts app. Contacts must be saved to an account. I can understand why, it's an attempt to foolproof losing contacts, and I actually agree with it.

Maybe another contacts app will do what you ask, but offhand I can't recommend one.
 
I'm with Crashdamage on this - easy backup is important for me.

You could create a gmail (or outlook etc) account, and set it up to never sync your contacts in phone's account settings. Now, your contacts can be created onto that account, but they won't get sync'd to that service, effectively making that contact available only on your phone.
 
Never had this problem with any other devices... I continue to accidentally dial people in my contacts... Is there a way ro disable phone dialer icon from lock screen without rooting? Or does anyone else have any suggestions?
 
It doesn't have it stock, but it can be added with a custom kernel or app package.

You can try disabling Ambient Display which will require pressing the power button to actually wake the display.

If you like Ambient Display and would rather leave it on, try setting a lockscreen password or pattern so if the dialer is activated in the pocket, it won't actually make it to the dialer pad/contacts list.

Went with pin an smart lock
 
Facial recognition, physical area recognition, or Bluetooth device pairing.

I use smartlock with my Moto 360. It works best with a device like the watch that maintains a constant connection. As long as the watch is in range, the phone swipes right passed the lockscreen. If out of range, it reverts to an 8-digit PIN.

I tried it with my headset as well, but didn't work very well since the headset's connection goes idle when not in use.

It's a "module" of sorts that incorporates Trusted Devices (Bluetooth), Trusted Faces, and Trusted Locations for automatically disabling the screen lock (PIN, password, or pattern).

Face Unlock is no longer allowed as a primary screen unlocking option - which is good, since it's less secure than even a four digit PIN.
