Nexus 7 for basic computing

So my aunt has an old computer that doesn't really work. She has a sansung Galaxy Apollo which she uses for internet browsing. She needs a new computer, but doesn't really want to fork out for one as a cheap one would be around

Sounds like it would be. Browsing, reading, multimedia, games, all things a tablet does well.

I ordered one for myself and my mother who wants the same thing your aunt does. I would suggest taking her to a place where she can try out the keyboard and touchscreen on other tablets to see if it's something she's comfortable with.

Owning both a rooted Nook Color (7") and a ASUS Transformer Prime (10"), I tend to think that 7" tablets make poor computer substitutes (they cannot display a normal sized webpage without lateral scrolling). But, if your aunt has been making do with internet on a gimpy 3.2" screen device, then I can only assume the Nexus 7 will be an amazing breath of fresh air.

My mom's a complete technophobe. Never emailed. Never used Facebook much. Until she got a Kindle Fire. Now I can count on her checking email & she's actually posting on Facebook these days. The key is that it's compact enough to carry with her & use on the couch w/o being ungainly.

She should be fine with the tablet. I would definitely suggest that you take her to best buy though so she can test drive a 7 inch tablet.

This should be much less of a problem with the Nexus 7's 1280x800 resolution, which was super common on nearly all laptops before they switched to 1366x768.

And for her, a Nexus 7 would probably be far more comfortable for her to hold than a 10.1" device + it would easily fit in her purse. Hell, I am only 21 and my hands get tired from bigger tablets after awhile
