Help Nexus dead this morning

So I plugged my nexus in to charge last night when I went to bed, I do this every night. I woke this morning and checked the phone for emails/msg, and it wouldnt wake. I had a couple random reboots lately so I thought maybe it turned itself off or something. So I tried to hold the power button to boot it up , nothing. So I checked the charger to make sure it was plugged in, it was. Did a couple battery pulls , nothing. Finally I left the battery out for about 5 minutes, it then booted up.

Sometimes I get called into work in the middle of the night, and if the phone does this I may miss the call. This could be a problem for me.

This happen to anyone else? You guys think its software or hardware?

BTW The phone is stock , no root, not unlocked.

I had one that would shut off with a slight knock or drop. Sometimes it would take a couple of attempts to restart but that is the closest experience I have had. Def could be a problem for you with your work.

When it booted up what was the battery level?

I was using a charger/ cable off a old phone and it started getting flaky and not charging some times..

Sounds like you have a bad phone though :/

I agree with the bad phone prognosis. As long as you haven't installed any non-market apps, I would take it back and request a new one. You can try to troubleshoot this stuff forever but having a non rooted, non modded phone, that burden does not fall upon you imo.

After I got it to boot up, the battery was fully charged. You think maybe it was over charging then it shut down or something?

I was using the usb cable (the one that came w/ the Nexus) , to transferr and charge my friends kindle 2 days before this happened. Maybe something got jacked up w/ the cable?

I wouldn't think there is anything wrong with the cable. I would request a new phone. I use my phone as an alarm clock and if it started failing me I would def turn it in. With our attendance policy where I work I can't afford to not wake up.
