NFC Tags

I just got tags that I ordered from Tagstand, purchased NFC Task Launcher on Google Play to write the tags and the first one I made works great for what I want it to do. It's for my car so it fires up my bluetooth, turns off my wifi, changes my ringer, media volume, and starts my music. From what I understand, I can't set it to toggle my GPS because of how ICS is built and where those settings are located now. A way to make this tag work with GPS is to have Tasker installed. The app allows you to execute Tasker tasks thus being able to turn on/off GPS, etc.

So, if Tasker can access these settings, why doesn't Tagstand improve their app so that it can too? Or is there something I'm missing?

I can't answer why they aren't incorporating GPS toggle, except perhaps it's because GPS radios are only turned on when requested, so leaving GPS "on" won't have much if any affect on battery life.

I just noticed that it won't read/execute a tag if the phone is on standby/locked. Anyway I can make it so that it read/executes always? It defeats the point of automation if I have to prep the phone (yes it still performs the rest automatically, I get that)

I'm pretty sure that Tasker can't toggle GPS either for the same reason.

yup, you need to be rooted and have "secure settings" from the play store installed to get it to work with tasker....so maybe downloading "secure settings" and having a rooted device would allow GPS functionality with the NFC launcher.

Believe me, if I could have had GPS in already it would have been in ;)

The security hole with the Power Manager widget (that EVERY app that toggled GPS exploited) was closed in 2.3.X.

You now need access to the secure settings to get to this. I'm looking at some options (a plugin for root users maybe) to get to things like GPS / Mobile Data / Background data, but that just isn't in the API and not available via reflection / exploit any longer for standard apps.
