Root No 3G? EvDo only, since new!

Out of the box my BM Evo Design has been running on EvDo 1x, No 4G in my area, but need 3G, rooted only:( Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?
 
Yes this is how my phone is to, but when I was adding build prop to my motorola triumph I would add EvDo only so I know it's needed for faster data transfer.
 
EvDo = 3G. I've done speed tests and can confirm that. When your phone isn't connected to 3G, but 2G instead, you'll see a 1X symbol instead.

I think what's happening is that you're used to the 3G symbol in Gingerbread, but since this phone has ICS which seems to show "EvDO" intead of the 3G symbol, it may cause some confusion for you/other users who might think the different wording means it's not 3G. But rest assured it is indeed 3G. :P
 
It is 3G but and it is somewhat specific to your device i am not sure if other devices have it as well but i do know for sure that sprint calls their 3G Data service EvDo for some reason!
 
Perhaps after the advent of 4G, they decided to call 3G "EvDO" to make it appear more antiquated when compared to their new 4G service so they didn't want people to think people to confuse the too.

I havn't seen EvDO since early 2000's! I think you hit it on head Apache, but even if they're shining up 4g, this thing is slower than Triumph! Runs hotter too. JD will give another point to Triumph
 
Sprint phones have ALWAYS said EV or EVDO. A few android phones have replaced this with "3G", but sprint has always called it EvDO. Why? Because the technology that CDMA uses for 3G is called EvDO.

The technology that GSM uses can technically be called "3G".

Windows Mobile phones were displaying this on all phones up until their demise in 2008. I am fairly confident that if a dumbphone didn't say EvDO it was because the resolution of the screen wasn't great enough. Even with android devices, I have seen it bounce back and forth depending on the ROM I am using and the device.
 
I found out how to swap out the icons in systemui.apk.

I have the modified systemui.apk file in my thread here:

Now you'll see the 3G symbol instead of that ugly EvDo symbol. You will need to be on a deodexed rom most likely though. Also be sure set the permissions to the file using the root file manager you used to copy it over to ensure you don't end up getting the black bar of death. :P
 
As you guys found it, it is a simple icon is all. Uscc doesn't use the evdo icon but sprint seems to, as said it is in the systemui.apk or should be. Where you can pull yours and replace the image with the 3g one. If you decide to go that route then be sure to keep the same file name as the one in the systemui you want to replace.
