No 4g In Phoenix Az? Really? and not coming anytime soon

Yeah, well I live near the other blob in the north valley, but I'm still out luck that I'm not covered. Hopefuly they are getting closer to turn on the service in the whole city, it's overdue alredy. I was expecting that it would be a December surprise but nothing.

Well I'm hoping it will be soon... qwest just said I can only get their 256k service, and if netflix isn't streaming over the 3g I teather from my epic (my average down speed is just under 1 meg) I doubt it will work well over their 256k... and I can't get cox... looks like I'm back on the waiting bench :'(

I visit Phoenix frequently and would like to use 4G there. It has been on here in Columbus since early December and it is great. I recently downloaded on a tether a 180 meg video in less than 5 minutes in the middle of a concrete building. The speeds range from 4mps down with a low sig to about 10mps line of sight to a tower. It started coming on in portions if the city late last year which sounds like what you are experiencing around Phoenix. The best part is being able to video conference on QIK as a passenger in a car and not loosing the signal. I have family in the area and can definitely utilize the higher speeds outside of hotspots. The security level can't be matched!

Has anybody been successful using 4g in East Valley lately? Clear.com's coverage map shows Gilbert and Broadway as 4g, but I couldn't get connected there last night.

Well, unless they are doing random testing and don't keep the 4g up and running. That would piss me off. I'd like to get an answer on this issue, if anybody has the inside scope from Clear.
MY Neighbor works for clear and is a supervisor and they laid 90%of everyone off here in phoenix. And they ship her to different parts of the country. There is know one putting up towers. Havent you noticed no more green spots for months. Maybe a year. I think it sucks. They suck for stopping work in phoenix. Call and complain.

That is unbelievable. I guess we all need to huddle in Mesa to use the service.

I live and work near Deer Valley Airport and spend a lot of my off work time in Surprise, AZ. I am using a Sprint "4G" htc EVO. It is 2/18/2011 today and still no 4G (at least nothing meaningful for me). I recently emailed Sprint that I am not exactly happy about this situation and the first response from them was:
"Unfortunately, your area
is not covered as yet and we cannot provide the estimated time of the
availability of 4G coverage in your area."
I replied that their answer did not instill much confidence for me and that I would be considering a different provider as soon as my contract expires.
Sprint replied:
"As a follow up on your mail, I have forwarded your case for an analysis
to our technical team to ensure faster action."
I am still waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for Sprint 4G.

Although this doesn't really effect Phoenix, It is probably still relevant because there has been some expansion in Arizona. Globe and Prescott appear to have just had some towers light up. (At least according to Clear.com.)

Did they happen to get 4g in Avondale yet? I was out there in fall of 09 for the races and 3g went out on Sunday. Worked fine Thur - Sat but no data would move Sunday or Monday morning. Soon as I left the area 3g came back so they must have had an overload blowout.
Maybe too many people like me trying to email all their pictures back home to all their friends and we fried the 3g transmitter.

We should arange a day we all call and complain.if we all call with in 24 hours, and thousands of people, they will have to do something. Other then giving us two crappy specs, one being in one of the crappy areas of mesa... talk about bad location. But that's person opinion. So let's decide on a date, and bulk call their sorrys asses! XD

Sounds like a great idea, but unfortunately I don't think there are enough of us here the forum to make a difference. I think the fact that there has been some movement in some arizona cities it may be a good indication that soon we will see something major going on here in phx.

Looking at the Clear map, it appears Tucson, Kingman and Sierra Vista are all in green now. Is this good news or bad for Phoenix?

Good catch. ^^ Arizona has been getting a lot of new sites over the past month, including Globe, Prescott, Flagstaff, Lake Havasu and Yuma. The ones you mentioned must have been added within the last few days; I check regularly and they werent there last I checked. I think all this action can only be a good thing. Lets hope, I"m Ready!

Unfortunately I dont see Phoenix getting 4g anytime soon. I have no proof of this, just a feeling.

I would have no issue if Sprint would just inform us about whats going on. Why is it every city around us is lighting up and Phoenix is left in the dark?

I think Sprint is committing business suicide by ignoring us.

Looks like Bullhead City is in the green now too. Oddly enough it looks like Kingman is not now. Why can't Clear just turn on what assets they do have in the Phoenix area? I thought they had sever hundred towers available. It wouldn't be complete coverage, but it would be something at least.

yea, i saw that too.. I really dont understand what is going here in Phoenix, or in Arizona for that matter. Just weird. All these small towns in BFE are getting 4G action... Globe? Siera Vista? Bull head city, Kingman? ...just to name a few. Yet they only have two towers lit up in Phoenix which covers only like 5% of the city. Really wish they could just give us something Phoenix. I dont even need great coverage here immediately.. just some expansion to let us know its coming/in the works would make my day. But these two towers have been up for months, with nothing new. I just wish they would tell us what their expansion plans on here... just something so I can stop wondering what the hell is going on!

I noticed a new "green blog" of coverage in the PHX area (via the Clear coverage map). It is in north Scottsdale. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come re 4G expansion here.

I checked out the clear.com site coverage map and drove by 64th & Greenway, right in the middle of the "green blob". Here is what I got (Keep in mind it's in Mb/sec)

I attached a screenshot from my EVO too for the kB/sec rate.

I had tried this before, without any luck, so maybe the signal is intermittent. I CAN'T wait for this to be city wide!...or at least near my house...:)
