Help No Application Folder

Lurker
Hi I have just bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy S2 Android ver 2.3.7 but I haven't got an application folder icon and cannot find the folder anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas how to find it....Regards Barry

There should be an icon that looks like a four-paned window on the bar at the bottom. This will open the Applications menu. Or select the Menu button and then Applications to do the same.

Version 2.3.7? When did that happen?

And was it factory reset before you got the phone? It should be. So you should be using TouchWiz and the icon you are looking for should be in the bottom dock at the furthest right.

Cheers

Yes it had been reset and the icons on the bottom are Phone icon contacts web and messages, another strange thing when I go to about phone the MIUI window where it tells me the android ver is 2.3.7 it first said an update was available which was a lower number than 2.3.7 but I had to create an account to get it when I applied it sent a pin number in Chinese also the themes stored on the phone have Chinese writing on them. Have I bought an iffy phone ?

Try Slug's suggestion. Tap on menu and select applications to go to the app drawer.

You might also want to try another factory reset.

Not sure why firmware should be 2.3.7 though. Bring it to the guy you bought it from and ask him.

The other thing I meant to say was that the home screen is nothing like my friends or the one you see in the advertisements and the folder structure is completely different, he has far more options than I do. Anyway I did a factory reset and it says update successful to MUIU 2.2.10 but when I go to about phone it still says android version 2.3.7 but further down the it says build number muiu 2.2.10
Thank you for your help I do appreciate it

I now have a message saying MUIU give us your feedback and when I create an account they send me a pin number but that is still in Chinese

It seems your phone came with a totally different firmware. Don't understand how. Better get back to the guy you bought the phone from. Maybe its a custom ROM.

Googling MUIU shows that it is a custom ROM. I think the guy you got it from flashed / rooted it to a different ROM. That's why everything is different. So the only thing you can do is learn how to use the current interface or to flash it back to something else. I am not that familiar with flashing or rooting but lots of threads about that in the forum.

Yeah MIUI is a custom ROM, I have it installed on my HTC Desire.

I think for the Galaxy S2, the default or customised default (such as CheckROM) is better than MIUI.

Thanks for all your help but the problem is I am 67 years of age and find this too complicated for me to follow. The only thing I think I can do is find someone to pay to set it up for me. Not sure if its worth giving the mobile phone shops who do unlocking

You either have to get someone from a phone shop to help you but I do notice a lot of them just sells phone and don't know how to do it. Ask for help from the forum. There are definitely people here that know how to fix it and maybe someone can help you either with advice or physically :D

Good luck

Thank you Russell, Slug, Jeremy for your help I really do appreciate it, if you happen to think of someone who could help physically I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction..Thanks again Barry
