No BusyBox

I finally did it, I rooted my SGS2 i9100!

However, I have a problem. I see where CWM and Superuser are........but there is no busybox. This is the kernel I flashed from chainfire:

CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5

I could really use some help.

Thanks

What makes you think you do not have busybox?

Anyway, its located in sbin/busybox
you should also have /system/app/superuser.apk
/system/xbin/su

try downloading Root Checker from the market to ensure you are properly rooted.

I downloaded root checker.....it says my root is good. I though BusyBox showed up as an app as the other two did.

But I don't see sbin/busybox or /system/app/superuser.apk/system/xbin/su anywhere in my phones files.

Is it possible that it didn't come in the kernel? I have no idea here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

You wont see busybox as an app in your app drawer.
and you will only see those files via root explorer or similar. the stock file manager cannot access that part of the file system

If root check says you're ok then you're good to go.

Ok, thanks.

I was wondering though, is there anything I need to do with BusyBox? Or does it just take care of itself? Do I need to worry about updating it? If so how do i do it?

Thanks again

No dont worry about it.
It will get updated with your kernel if necessary. You dont need to know its there. Its basically used to give your device extra Linux functionality and commands, and is used transparently in CWM recovery scripting for example.

Does it show up as an app then when installed off the market? Is that how I could use it to preform Linux commands, if I was so inclined?

It should show up if you are rooted using the CF-Root method, described here:-

You don't do anything with it, (unless you really know what you're doing)... leave it alone or you'll be made to sit on the naughty step!

Here's more info on it:-

I did use that specific guide, and down to the proverbial "T" ....I don't know why why it didn't show up in the app drawer. If anyone would know....it'd be you right?..............after all it is your guide!!! :)

I don't know anything about it.....so maybe I will leave it alone.

But if I was so inclined, what should i do? Re-root (I know my root is good Titanium works and Root Checker said it was good) or download a Busybox from the market? If so, which one as there are a few.

Thanks in advance

Busybox doesn't show up as an app so don't worry about it. If apps which require root work fine then busybox is installed.

Do yourself a favour mate and forget all about it. As long as root check says your good then you don't have to worry. Busybox will just do it's magic seamlessly behind the scenes

If TiBackup works then busybox must be installed. It would throw up an error otherwise. In fact, if you open Titanium the Overview screen will confirm its presence against "Root access".

But it should appear as app in drawer. It does on my phone(busybox from market). Dunno why its not working for ya... just forget bout it as lads suggesting;) i did some mess with it myself some time ago... if you decide to try, be careful ;)

But it should appear as app in drawer

Only if installed from Android Market, and then probably only because a shortcut of some kind is required. Technically it shouldn't as it's not actually an Android app and can't be opened/run under that OS. The only way for the user to interact with it directly is by entering Linux commands via a terminal emulator or adb shell.
