Root No data/local folder?

I've been trying to figure this out on my own, but I am at a loss. I am trying to change the boot animation (running MikG) and I cannot see a local folder in my data folder. Anyone have any clue why? My SD is partitioned, not sure if that makes a difference. I confirmed in the .xml that the boot animation is located in /data/local, but there is no local folder there!

Take a look at this thread, it may help you.

I'm so close now! I updated the setting in ES and can now find /data/local, but when I go to move the file the local folder isn't there!

Edit - for anyone else using ES and has this problem, I also had to change the home directory to "/" in order to get to the root directory. It defaults to the sdcard folder and wouldn't let me go above that until I changed the home directory.

Just figured it out, instead of using the move function I did a copy/paste. Weird that using the move function the folder is still hidden.

+1 on using Root Explorer.

Go to system>customize>resource and replace the bootanimation.zip file w/ the one you're trying to implement. Mount R/W for it to stick.

And it worked! Thanks for all of the help guys! I figured it out using ES, but it wasn't at all intuitive. If anyone is in the same boat here is what I did:

1. Go to Menu>Settings in ES and check off Root Explorer and Mount File System
2. While still in Setting change Home Directory to "/"
3. Go to wherever you put the new boot animation file and long touch the icon, then select Copy
4. Go to the /data/local folder and go to Menu>Operations>Paste

The new file should now be pasted into the /data/local folder!
