Help No firmware updates

Hi all,
I've had an S2 for some months now. It's running 2.3.4. Should I not have been able to download .5 or .6 by now? What would this mean for the apparent ICS update this month??
Nothing from the software update, and no new firmware updates etc via Kies (air and wired).

I've an unbranded s2, on Mobilcom-Debitel (Vodafone Germany).

2.3.4
I9100XXKI1
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 root@DELL143 #2
GINGERBREAD.XWKI4

Thanks for any suggestions.

Official updates are down to your carrier, so best ask them for a release date, then add a few months as they are always late.

If you want those versions now plenty of .5, .6, .7 and 4.0.3 custom roms in root section. Better than official versions anyway in my opinion.

Thanks Wilf, With MD being one of Germanys smaller carriers, i doubt they'll ever send out update.
Scared to root though, don't want to mess my phone up/don't know enough about it.

Even if they did it wouldn't apply as yours is an unbranded EU handset (XWKI4). That's the most recent firmware for those devices.

Network carriers are only responsible for updates if they use custom-branded firmware.

By checking with Kies, although rumour has it that the OTA update facility may be utilised for the forthcoming Android 4.0 update.

Hi all,

I also have not been able to upgrade via Kies or OTA even though I purchased my phone unbranded and unlocked. My details are:

2.3.4
I9100XXK11
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 root@DELL103#2
GINGERBREAD.XWKI4

Any help would be very much appreciated

Hi Slug,
My CSC is I9100DBTKH1.
If my handset is unbranded and generic, (it has no carrier branded stuff on it) will it receive any updates direct from samsung? OTA or Kies? And if updates do come from samsumg, why are these phones several firmware releases behind other branded handsets out there??

Thanks,
Ant

Yes.

OTA or Kies?

Kies. Vodafone UK handsets are the only ones using the OTA facility at the moment. This may change for Android 4.0.x.

And if updates do come from samsumg, why are these phones several firmware releases behind other branded handsets out there??

Because an update isn't deemed necessary, presumably. No manufacturer pushes out minor revision updates unless they have to.

Thanks for your reply Slug. So will Samsung bother with issuing an update? are they likely to do it before the carriers do, as they're 'their' phones?

So will Samsung bother with issuing an update?

Yes. No. Maybe. I'm not privy to Samsung's thought processes unfortunately. However, as it's obvious that they're well down the road towards a 4.0.x release, I'd say the chances of any further 2.3.x are probably remote.

Hi Guys.
I just recieved a Galaxy S2 replacement, the last one was faulty.
It doesnt seem to be branded by three (UK), as i would suspect.

It comes with the same firmware as the original poster. Any ideas on ICS update for it?

I have tried to get it through Keis, when i try to force an update, it says I9100 doesnt support initialisation (or something).

Any ideas?

p.s. i miss my ICS off the old phone :(
