Help No Flashing LED Notification

CptCurl

Newbie
Until recently if I had a missed call, a new text message, or something else new my Droid X would display a flashing LED at the top, just left of middle, right beside the ear speaker.

Now I'm not getting the flashing LED notification.

The phone recently upgraded its operating system to Android version 2.3.3 I don't know, but suspect, that the upgrade is when I lost the flashing LED notification. I would like to get that back functional.

Anybody know what I can do?

Thanks,
Curl

No, it's not universal, but no, you are not the only one with the problem.

My LEDs worked perfectly on Gingerbread, but it was a complaint from more than one person.

That said, LightFlow is a rockin' app. One of the most useful apps I have. Great, responsive developer, too. While it sucks to think of it like having to pay for an app to fix stock functionality, LightFlow adds so much more functionality to your entire notification system that it's well worth it.

I don't know if this is a "fix" or not, but I have noticed a few times when it appeared I didn't get a notification LED.

Each time the phone was left in the funtion that the LED was notifying. For example, it seems when I left the phone in the text messaging screen, and the phone just shut itself off, I didn't get a notification when a new text from the same person came in. Same as if you were in the text app and a new text came it.

Usually I'm religious in hitting the home button to go back to the main screen, and I don't see this issue. Just a thought that probably doesn't have anything to do with it, but who knows. Maybe someone will test that theory out.

So is this universal - I'm not the only one with the problem?

Thanks again,
Curl

You're definitely not the only one. Its hit and miss. It works for some and not for others. I still say try a factory reset, or get Lightflow.

Good luck.

Definitely hit or miss, and if you have Handcent, it seems to only make it worse. Even after several re-installs, I've had sporadic LEDs, then none at all, and now not even text alert sounds. I'm going to probably try Go SMS and see if they can fix it. WhoIsIt's LEDs don't work either.

I did try LightFlow before, but I think it conflicts with BattMonX, because I had constantly FC's. May try that again too.

I hope that my app is not interferring with Andrew's Light Flow...keep in mind that in non-root mode, the LED (and the other notification resources like the status bar icons, etc.) are all first-in, first-out (FIFO). So, if you have apps competing for the same resources, you might get some unexpected behaviors (but shouldn't be seeing FCs, though). That's why I kept BattMonX pretty minimalist--I only monitor for SMS text messages and it steps-aside when those are seen. All that being said, GB certainly changed the behavior of the LED in subtle ways that are hard to describe...

I did install the Lite version of Light Flow this morning and I did get an FC, but it appears to be a known issue with th new version of Gmail (and the FC I got happened when I received a new Gmail message). Andrew's got a message posted in his app re. this:

"** FIX FOR CRASH WITH NEW VERSION OF GMAIL COMING SOON **"

I installed the new version of Gmail this morning, before seeing this thread...otherwise I would have done the tests with the old versions. Clearly, Andrew knows that something is up and is working on a fix for this.

Cheers!

I dunno; I just know both lite and pro Light Flow would FC like crazy when I first installed them. I could open up settings, work for a minute, then FC. I was just assuming since both are for notification LEDs, they were screwing with each other, and since I liked your app better (and Light Flow was extraneous at the time) I dropped it.

However, even if Light Flow works for LEDs, it won't fix my audible notification problem with Handcent, which is really ticking me off.
